As part of Operations Finance you will play a critical role in supporting this bold ambition; we currently partner with ~25 supply sites and an extensive external manufacture & supply networks, which collectively have an annual budget of ~$5bn manufacturing & distribution costs and $4bn in inventory, as well as extensive capital investment programme.

As the Operations Financial Control Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining the global financial control framework (operated through a matrix of embedded finance, Global Financial Services (GFS) and Commercial Marketing Companies), ensuring that it is effective, standardised and efficient. A key part of this will be the co-ordination of reporting of effectiveness of controls via the annual cycle of controls performance and testing. To be successful in this aims, you will need to build and develop a strong community of best practice across the organisation and manage relationships within and external to AZ.

To be a successful candidate, you will need to have experience in best practise Financial Control frameworks (preferably with an understanding of manufacturing accounting processes and / or the pharma industry), a track record in driving change and process improvements, examples of designing policies & SOPs, good working

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Ops Financial Controller, Ops Finance Leadership team and across 25 sites and the Group Financial Services (GFS) organisation to set the Financial controls improvement agenda and take responsibility to ensure the control environment in Operations is robust and efficient

  • Standardise the FCF framework - continue ongoing process of benchmarking sites and ensuring a standard core FCF set of controls aligned to group requirements are designed and implemented, highlighting and supporting delivery of opportunities to improve the control environment and drive efficiency

  • Support the governance of controls framework – e.g. embedding new standard controls or enhancements to existing controls and coordinate the response to any control weaknesses identified including any control updates required, policy documentation, communications and training

  • Maintain a simple but effective reporting framework to cover end to end controls for Global Ops covering GFS and embedded controls, Sox and FCF, all sites and functions – Leveraging the One GRC risk management solution

  • Lead an Operations controllership “community of practice” to ensure best practice sharing, support training needs, share hot topics etc.

  • Oversee issue resolution for any critical control weakness

  • Own central controls including oversight of Accounting Issues Notes for complex accounting areas / Post Balance Sheet Event reviews

  • Manage internal and external relationships (PWC, FC&CG)

Essential skills and experience

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification

  • Good experience in Financial Control frameworks

  • Excellent change management - Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks effectively

  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment

  • Demonstrated success building cross-functional global networks and stakeholder management

  • A record of delivery in a matrix organisation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to use a range of influencing techniques

Desirable skills and experience

  • Broad process experience (development, management and application of)

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, Ideally in a Pharmaceutical environment

  • Good working knowledge of SAP
