What you’ll do

The Biologics Engineering team is responsible for the discovery and optimisation of next generation biological drug candidates for all key therapy areas across AstraZeneca, and for developing in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to address unmet medical needs.

Central to this effort is the development of end-to-end data management and analysis capabilities to deliver novel biologics drugs. You will be part of an interdisciplinary Bioinformatics team, working at the cutting edge of research and development to create an active learning system for biologics engineering, in which model predictions guide lab experiments, lab automation generates high-throughput data for model training, and predictive models are updated as new data are generated. As part of this effort, you will collaborate closely with experts in data management, software engineering, lab automation, computational modelling and machine learning, with access to biologics R&D data across AstraZeneca and the potential to generate new data to inform predictive models.

This role provides the opportunity for a talented and motivated Bioinformatician to develop end-to-end experiment design and analysis capabilities that will significantly impact the delivery of the novel biologics drugs of the future.

  • Work collaboratively to drive the implementation and adoption of solutions to experiment design and analysis challenges in biologics engineering.

  • Grow your knowledge of biologics engineering by working closely with domain experts, to better inform experiment design and analysis solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with IT functions, data scientists and drug discovery scientists to understand and identify solutions to scientific and technical challenges in experiment design and analysis.

  • Develop experiment design tools such as high throughput cloning strategies together with downstream analysis tools.

  • Work with scientists to implement experiment design and analysis solutions as web applications that interface with the Genedata Biologics software platform via web services.

  • Support training of team and bench scientists in experiment design and analysis processes.

  • Identify opportunities to improve experiment design and analysis for biologics R&D across AstraZeneca.

Essential for the role

  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant computational field.

  • Knowledge of molecular biology.

  • Experience developing software applications for designing molecular biology experiments or analysing the resulting data.

  • Experience developing web applications.

  • Strong communication and excellent attention to detail, capable of developing good working relationships with diverse individuals.

  • Experience working within a team environment.

  • Acts with integrity and does the right thing.

Desirable for the role

  • Experience working with Genedata Biologics or related platform for biologics discovery.

  • Experience with software development in Python.

  • Experience prototyping analysis methods in Jupyter notebooks.

  • Experience with D360, Spotfire or related software for data visualisation.

  • Experience with software development best practices.
