The Early Commercial organization within Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolic (CVRM) is responsible for shaping and building a winning portfolio that establishes AstraZeneca as an enduring leader in the cardio, renal and metabolic area.

The CVRM Early Commercial team has 2 main areas of focus:

  • Commercial strategy, planning and valuation of the emerging CVRM pipeline from CDID through to Phase 3 ID

    • Shape disease area and portfolio level strategies

    • Develop externally validated and clinically meaningfully differentiated Disease Area and early asset TPPs

    • Utilize deep customer insights (patient, physician, payer) to inform clinical development plans and to create differentiated and winning product and brand strategies for pipeline assets

    • Create evidence based forecasts that are aligned with target product profiles and that credibly reflect a range of commercial potential

  • Commercial evaluation of potential in-licensing opportunities

The CVRM Early Commercial team is comprised of experienced commercial leaders that effectively partner with global emerging product teams, market affiliates and external partners to shape and build a winning CVRM portfolio.

We leverage our scientific knowledge, strong commercial/business acumen and partnering skills to:

  • Shape unique, winning Disease Area (DA), global product and global brand strategies

  • Create differentiated DA and asset specific target product profiles (TPPs)

  • Develop accurate and compelling business cases with meaningful sensitivities

  • Establish and nurture internal and external senior stakeholder/ key external expert/ partnering networks to drive favorable business outcomes

What you’ll do

We are seeking an experienced commercial leader to effectively partner with our global emerging product teams, market affiliates and external partners to shape and build a winning CVRM portfolio. In this role, you will be responsible for:

Commercial strategy, planning & valuation of emerging CVRM assets:

(CDID through Ph3 ID)

  • Shape CVRM product strategies

  • Support with objectively analyzing and commercially evaluating internal assets considering product profile, competitive positioning, unmet need, pricing and market access, etc.

  • Work with Project Leaders on the multi-disciplinary effort to create differentiated disease area and asset specific target product profiles (TPPs) that are validated with insights from external experts and/or key customer groups

  • Lead delivery of commercial inputs to of early product teams

  • Utilize deep customer and market insights to inform the design of clinical development programs and regulatory plans that effectively address unmet customer needs and delivers optimum value back to the business

  • Create clear, actionable, winning brand strategies that incorporate feedback from key markets

  • Produce detailed strategic and operational commercial plans that address positioning, segmentation, pricing, value proposition, target market selection, etc.. Track and manage associated budget to target.

  • Oversee the development and delivery of an optimized customer insight plan that delivers deep and actionable insights on key outstanding business questions required to inform product development and brand strategy plans as well as asset valuation

  • Be part of the commercial evaluation team of potential business development deals

  • Develop future proofed revenue forecasts and business cases that are informed by robust customer insights with an overlay of commercial judgement.

  • Manage marketing relationships with agencies, vendor partners, consultants, and other third-party groups

  • Build and maintain external and internal networks of disease area experts

  • This role will report to a CVRM Early Commercial Head

  • Collaborate with CVRM Early Commercial leadership (and other team members) to deliver the global CVRM ambition, including successful phase transitions in all indications.

  • Comply with AZ policies, standards and procedures in every interaction

Internal and External Contacts/Customers:

  • Global on-market brand heads and marketing company commercial leaders

  • Cross functional teams – Research, Development, Pharm Dev, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Pricing and Market Access, Business Insights, Regional commercial teams

  • Key external stakeholders; eg, HCPs in Ad Boards and at congresses (as appropriate)

  • Governance boards

This position can be based in either Cambridge, UK, Gaithersburg, MD, Gothenburg, SE, or Wilmington, DE. Preference for the role is to be located in either Cambridge, UK or Gaithersburg, MD.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS is required

  • 10+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical development and commercialization

  • Demonstrated success working in marketing teams to deliver: effective commercial brand strategies, compelling business cases, and a wide variety of licensing proposals

  • Strong working knowledge of forecasting, market research, actionable insight generation, and competitive landscape analysis and interpretation

  • Sound internal and external stakeholder/partner engagement skills with demonstrated ability to seamlessly navigate scientific and commercial organizations to drive favorable business outcomes

  • Demonstrated ability to influence laterally and vertically

  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication/presentation skills (written and verbal)

  • Scientific curiosity

  • Self-starter, able to work independently.

  • High personal drive to find new solutions and challenge the broader organisation to deliver

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant Therapeutic Area knowledge - CVRM

  • Commercial/ marketing role in US or Large Markets with Launch Experience

  • Broad US/Global professional relationships with Key External Experts in CV and/or HF
