Business Unit

In the Oncology Business Unit, we relentlessly follow the science, challenging the status quo to deliver more effective treatments to patients in need. Our dedication means we purposefully push back the limits of knowledge to change the practice of medicine. To ensure no patient is left behind, no matter what stage of disease. The Biologics Engineering team is responsible for the discovery and optimisation of biological candidate drugs to support all therapy area drug discovery pipelines and for the development of in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to support future drug discovery efforts. Fast-paced, it takes agility and responsiveness to stay committed in our pursuit of excellence.

What you'll do

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to help support our therapeutic discovery pipeline as well as develop and implement our next-generation antibody libraries and screening methods in their application to pre-clinical programs. The successful candidate will add to our team of multidisciplinary and passionate scientists excited by research at the interface between technology and biology. He/she will be a well-organized and a highly productive bench scientist that can design and execute experiments efficiently, as well as analyse, interpret and present data. The role entailsthe isolation and optimisation of biologics for our therapeutic programmes using a range of in vitro display platforms (e.g. phage, yeast, mammalian and ribosome display) as well as supporting technology development and innovation programs within the Biologics Engineering group.

Essential skills

  • A Ph.D level scientist with post-doctoral experience, or Batchelor’s degree with equivalent experience in molecular biology, screening and sequencing

  • Strong hands-on experience in molecular biology methods and technologies (e.g., PCR, RT-PCR, cloning (ligation-dependent and independent methods), site-directed mutagenesis, Sanger sequencing/analysis), ideally applied to generation of antibody fragment (or other protein scaffold) libraries

  • Extensive experience and track-record working with in vitro display technologies (e.g., phage, yeast, mammalian and ribosome display, etc.) applied to antibody isolation and optimisation – library generation and bio-panning using different enrichment strategies

  • Ability to independently design, execute and manage diverse antibody isolation campaigns and fit-for-purpose engineering strategies

  • Ability to optimize protocols, troubleshoot, interpret experimental results/data and maintain accurate, high quality and up-to-date experimental records

  • Good understanding of antibody genetics and experience with analysis of antibody repertoires – germline annotation, clustering and diversity analysis

  • Strong communication skills in a team environment and an ability to learn and embrace new technologies quickly

Desirable skills

  • Experience with development of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and/or radionuclide antibody conjugates (RACs)

  • Experience in designing and generation of synthetic antibody/scaffold libraries

  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) applied to antibody discovery

  • Experience in high-throughput antibody screening, reformatting and characterisation methods including in vitro biochemical assays (ELISA, SPR, BLI or flow cytometry) and functional assays

  • Experience with computational methods and machine learning applied to antibody design and optimisation

  • Experience with leading/co-leading and/or managing research projects

  • Experience with managing or supervising people
