We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist researcher to join the Bioscience Asthma & Skin Immunity research group in Cambridge, UK to work on an independent research project focused on investigating the pathogenesis of lung and skin diseases and the identification of novel targets. Within our Cambridge based research team, we are seeking an experienced research scientist with a strong understanding of screening and experience with mammalian cell culture. In this role, you would be expected to demonstrate an exceptionally high level of enthusiasm for innovative scientific research leading to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics. Ideally, you have some expertise in immunology, and an ability to apply this experience to an understanding of the basic mechanisms of human lung and skin pathologies.
What you’ll do:
This job is a lab-based research role, and you will have a significant opportunity to contribute to the developments of new therapies in the Bioscience Asthma & Skin Immunity research group in Cambridge, UK. The work will be predominantly focused on screening of candidate drug molecules in disease-relevant in vitro assays. This work will involve culture of cell lines as well as primary immune cells.
The role will be based in Cambridge within AstraZeneca’s state-of-the-art laboratories where you will follow the science to help drive innovation and advance medicine to help improve patient lives.
You will collaborate with scientists from a variety of functional teams in Cambridge and with our sites in Gaithersburg, US and Gothenburg, Sweden.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
We are looking for a motivated new member of the team, able to learn and grow in our organisation. The successful candidate will provide broad laboratory-based support to our ongoing lung and skin biology projects.
A team player able to collaborate on multiple projects
Work under manager’s supervision to carry out key lab tasks
Accurately record and assess all data generated in course of analyses with a high attention to detail
Solve technical and logistical challenges
Ensures that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards
Excellent communication with manager and team
Education, Skills and Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years relevant laboratory experience with a BSc, MSc, PhD (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or a related field in Biological Science
Work experience in Pharma/Biotech industry is desirable
Strong hands-on experience with cell/tissue culture, and ideally experience with the culture of human primary cells.
Ability to evaluate cellular responses by various means, for example flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blotting, PCR, imaging, try and/or other similar technologies
Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team to conduct a high-level research project.
Ability to critically analyse data sets
Demonstrated ability to function as part of a team and run collaborative efforts
Experience with one of the following areas would be advantageous but is not a requirement
Experience of multiparameter FACS analysis is highly desirable
Experience in drug discovery projects and screening compounds in immunology or a closely related field of biology
Experience in management, recording and processing of human samples
The ability to develop in vitro and ex vivo models to understand mechanisms important in disease
