Pharmaceutical Technology & Development:
Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) are the bridge, which turns brilliant science into medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices required to support new medicines – from supplies for use in early toxicology studies and clinical trials to developing the technology to ensure drugs can be scaled up for commercial manufacture.
We are growing our Chemical Development group in PT&D, and we are looking for a strong Separation Scientist to join a vibrant team that is working on the next generation of medicines and play a key role in the development of new medicinal products. As a Senior Scientist you will be responsible for supporting and leading aspects of our separation science strategy including training, capital, external and internal collaborations and new technology introduction. You will also be responsible for carrying out close support and collaboration with project leads on Separation Science activities including development, validation and transfer of methods.
These responsibilities will be across all aspects of separation science but will concentrate on the development of efficient and data rich chromatographic methods that support all of the PT&D Chemical Development project submissions across the small and large molecule portfolio.

Other responsibilities include:
Collaborating with project scientists in providing separation science expertise and excellence into projects to develop, validate, transfer and troubleshoot chromatographic methods.
Using lean to drive continual improvement across the training & capability of other scientist’s, chromatographic processes, instrument robustness, performance and utilisation.
Developing and implementing new sustainable platform approaches and workflows that deliver new chromatographic methods for our small molecule portfolio and new modalities.
Using chromatographic data sources to simplify and accelerate chromatographic modelling, simulation and critical decision making.
Growing internal and external collaborations.
Working with AZ Partner Organisations to ensure our instrument management systems and procedures are in compliance.
All these activities will have a significant impact on driving and developing Separation Science Strategy in PT&D. The role, therefore, has a significant impact on project delivery and scientific reputational aspects of the business.
BSc/PhD level education in a relevant discipline and related experience working within a separation science environment.
Application and understanding of key separation science analytical techniques including Liquid, Gas, Supercritical Fluid and Ion Chromatography alongside relevant detection techniques.
Fundamental knowledge of separation science with a track record developing and troubleshooting chromatographic methods.
Experience of technical supervision, coaching and mentoring.
A good understanding of the principles and management of SHE and cGMP.
Understanding of the required CMC content or contributions to regulatory filings throughout the life cycle of process especially where it relates to separation science.
