Introduction to role:

Join our dynamic Biopharmaceuticals R&D team as a Senior Scientist, where you'll have the opportunity to develop and leverage novel Mass Spectrometry (MS) approaches to accelerate hit to lead activities. This role is perfect for those who thrive on experimentation and are eager to make a significant impact on early drug discovery.


In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and routine application of an ASMS based peptide screening platform. You will manage the delivery of discovery projects, troubleshoot technical issues, and work with the affinity team to identify technology gaps and future requirements. You will also support the development of less experienced staff and build internal and external networks relevant to your field of expertise.

Essential Skills/Experience:

- Demonstrable experience of mass spectrometry techniques relevant to drug discovery e.g., protein-ligand characterisation, proteomics, chemoproteomics etc.

- Practical experience using mass spectrometry approaches to help solve challenging biological questions.

- PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent scientific experience.

- Proven track record for scientific problem solving and troubleshooting technical issues.

- Solid understanding of data analysis principles as applied to large data sets and familiarity with data analysis and visualisation packages.

- Excellent team working and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of scientific discipline, culture, and expertise.

- Agile at learning new concepts and adapting to new technologies, projects and collaborators.

- Ability to work independently and prioritise own workload within the larger team environment to deliver department and project requirements.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

- Practical experience of state-of-the-art proteomics workflows and strategies.

- Experience of Affinity Selection Mass Spectrometry (AS-MS) or MS approaches as applied to small molecule screening.

- Experience in biochemical, biophysical and/or cellular screening technologies.

- Experience in identification, implementation and application of new technologies and methods.

- Publication record and/or experience of presenting scientific data.

- Knowledge and understanding of the drug discovery process, particularly early-stage discovery.
