Supportability Engineer - Logistics Support Analysis

Have you ever questioned where the maintenance you undertake on your car or bike comes from, how the spares and parts are labelled, how both are correctly captured within the accompanying technical documents? Would you like to play a key role in the support of Royal Navy and International programmes? If the answer to these questions is yes, you are the kind of individual we are seeking. Our Maritime Services business currently have vacancies for Engineers located at our sites in either Portsmouth, Scotstoun or Filton, although most time will be spent working from home. Full on-the-job training / coaching / mentoring will be provided to the right candidate.

In these roles you will be working across platforms such as the Type 45 Destroyers, Type 26 Global Combat Ships build and export programmes and the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier programme. You will be responsible for the review and analysis of ships engineering data that is necessary for maintainers to support the systems and equipment that make up the platforms, managing this within our Project toolsets.

This role will provide you with the chance to forge a career within the Support Engineering domain whilst working with some of the most complex warship programmes in the world. Your main responsibilities typically include:

  • Reviewing and analysing ship design data to contribute to the production of quality support products including maintenance schedules, technical publications, spares, etc

  • Conducting availability, reliability and maintainability analysis of platform systems and equipment to inform design decisions.

  • Conducting Reliability Centred Maintenance studies to create maintenance schedules for platform systems

  • Applying engineering knowledge and expertise to analyse the impact of engineering change, including the effect on availability, reliability and maintainability of the overall platform and its systems

  • Analysis of drawings and other documentation that accompany engineering change, capturing the necessary information within our toolsets so updated maintenance and technical documents can be deployed to end users

  • Collating and managing engineering information within project toolsets and databases

  • Investigate queries received by the project from Customers and key stakeholders, producing coherent responses that satisfactorily close out the query ‘right first time’

  • Applying engineering knowledge and expertise to analyse the impact of material from Manufacturers and suppliers on the support engineering solutions

  • Working across the T45, QEC and T26 programme teams to identify and resolve in-service or build supportability and data issues

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Engineering knowledge gained through practical experience in one or more relevant backgrounds: Maritime, Defence, Rail, Aerospace, Facilities Management, Oil and Gas, etc, or from further education at level 4, HND or degree

  • An ability to read and understand schematic diagrams and technical documentation

Desirable:

  • Experience in use of a computerised Maintenance Management System, preferably in the Maritime domain

  • Experience in the use of a Logistics database, preferably in the maritime domain

  • Knowledge of principles and/or experience in the application of Supportability Engineering would be advantageous (e.g., Defence Standards 00-60, 00-600 or commercial ASD standards)

Location: Portsmouth, Scotstoun or Filton (Hybrid, mostly working from home)

Salary: up to £43,000 dependent on skills and experience
