Stores Supervisor

Freightliner Maintenance Ltd - Manchester / Leeds / Hope

Freightliner Maintenance is expanding its stores team and is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to look after our various wagon mobile teams and Hope depot stores. This position can be based out of Leeds, Manchester or Hope Valley however regular daily travel to all three locations is expected with the occasional trip to Stoke Gifford. The role will also be used to provide leave cover for our stores supervisor at Manchester. This is a really good opportunity for someone to own and develop this critical area of support as our mobile teams grow and develop.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be a Safety leader - ensure you, your colleagues, contractors and others work safely at all times. Ensuring proactive measures are taken, through safety observations and positive engagement.
  • Own the stores facilities through effective planning, implementation and optimising stock levels to meet the business and production criteria for the maintenance and repair of wagons.
  • Use our AMS system to maintain accurate records to manage the stock and materials held and to carry out audit and stock checks in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure that the correct materials to the appropriate specifications are ordered, delivered and available to meet maintenance demand.
  • Organise the return of repairable items.
  • Liaise with internal customers and external suppliers to achieve maximum efficiency for the control of material.
  • Develop and maintain visual management processes in line with lean practises and monitor the utilisation of materials through the stores


  • Commitment to safe working practices
  • Experience within the role of Materials Controller /Logistics Controller/ Buyer/ Materials Management or experience on railway vehicles.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels internally & externally
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft software packages
