Planning Lead

Join the GBN PMO team as a Planning Lead in the nuclear industry, where you will oversee and manage the planning process within GBN. This leadership role is pivotal in driving the strategic direction, ensuring that planning operations align with organisational goals, and facilitating cost estimating, resource management and risk management. The Planning Lead will collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior leadership, and stakeholders to create, implement, and track comprehensive plans that drive successful project outcomes.
Day to day duties:
- Owner of the GBN Planning Procedure, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives.
- Manage the administration of the Primavera P6 application and contents, including all settings, codes and calendars.
- Act as subject matter expert for planning and scheduling matters across GBN. Ensure that planning standards are followed across the organisation.
- Develop detailed baseline schedules for projects and programmes through workshops and liaison with delivery leads and SME's, ensuring that schedules are logic driven, cost and resource loaded, with appropriate reporting mechanisms defined such as milestones and rules of credit.
- Ensure that the schedule hierarchy is integrated and effective, including supply chain schedules, project schedules, and the integrated programme schedule. Maintain and report on dependencies across projects.
- Interface with other Programme functions such as cost estimating and risk management to provide the schedules upon which the cost estimates and risk analysis will be based.
- Maintain robust and integrated baselines via the change control process, producing scenarios and impact assessments to inform decisions on change.
- Produce periodic progress updates by capturing actuals, reforecasting, analysing progress and developing mitigations.
- Regularly monitor the progress of planning activities and track key performance indicators (KPIs). Prepare and deliver comprehensive reports to senior management on project status, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Proactively identify potential risks or delays during the planning process and provide solutions to mitigate these challenges, ensuring that projects stay on track.
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior planners or planning team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Support the professional development of the planning team.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
- Proven experience in scheduling and project management within large infrastructure programmes.
- Ability to analyse data and project requirements to identify risks and proactively implement solutions. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with cross-functional teams, management, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams, providing guidance, and promoting collaboration among team members. Ability to motivate and drive high performance.
- In-depth knowledge of planning methodologies, project management software Primavera P6 and best practices within the industry.
- Ability to adjust planning strategies and processes in response to changing business needs or unexpected challenges.
- Strong organisational skills with a focus on accuracy, ensuring that all project plans and resources are effectively managed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, or equivalent level of knowledge & experience.
- Proficient in planning tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Excel) and capable of leveraging these tools for efficient project tracking and reporting.
