We have an excellent opportunity within our Customer Information department for a Customer Information Maintenance Engineer as part of the GTR In-House Station Information Systems Maintenance Team currently based at Hitchin.

The role is varied and will include working on station Based Information systems, Customer Help Points and Public Address Systems, in all weathers. You will also be required to undertake installation work on the systems across the GTR network. . The role involves working outdoors on wide area-based IT systems and legacy equipment.

Responsibilities will include ensuring all duties are carried out in accordance with the relevant safety responsibility statements, Risk assessments and work package plans, reactive fault rectification for station-based Information systems at any GTR station.

Working within a small dedicated team, you will attend stations to investigate and resolve faults on varied systems such as information screens, help points, roaming microphones and public address systems. These systems can use technology such as IP networks, GSM, RS485 and TCP/IP protocols.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following in their applications

  • Good standards of customer service
  • Knowledge of rail operations, products, and services
  • Good Communication skills
  • Full UK Clean driving licence.

Basic knowledge of varied cabling systems such as cat 5/6 and Coax testing and terminating. Basic electronics would be advantageous (16th or 17th edition) as would basic understanding of PC based Networked equipment.
