Purpose of Role:

  • The Data Architect will serve as technical authority for the Data and Analytics capabilities and environment within Harbour Energy. They will also act as an SME, when appropriate, across projects and product development
  • The Data Architect is responsible for discovering the data and analytics requirements across all projects and product lines. TheData Architect needs to contribute to Harbour Energy’s overall strategy on data, unlocking business insight by improving access to consistent data, standardising data governance, and automating data-based processes
  • The role will work closely with the Enterprise Architect to tie together both ERP/EMS level applications and peripherals, as well as the larger portfolio, in terms of high-level architecture and integration/hosting planning
  • The role will receive functional, technical, and administrative guidance from the Data Architecture and Governance Manager

Critical Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and Harbour Energy HSES Procedures

Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with Harbour Energy’s Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence:

  • Collaborates with data and analytics leaders within IS, data science and analytics specialists, information management staff, SD&A roles, product leads and business stakeholders
  • Influences and drives data strategy: By partnering with business unit leadership, and through the rationalisation of the data value chain, the Data Architect provides strategic recommendations to maximize the value of data assets via their creation, access, and use
  • Understands and develops complex solutions that can innovate the Harbour technology stack
  • Maximises value derived from data and analytics: Fosters value creation using the organisation's data assets, as well as the external data ecosystem. This includes aiding value creation through data exploitation, envisioning data-enabled strategies, as well as enabling all forms of business outcomes through analytics, data and analytics governance, and enterprise data policy
  • Evaluates opportunities and build business cases
  • Surfaces data priority: Assesses the benefits and the risks of data by using tools such as business capability models to create a data-centric view to quickly visualise what data matters most to the organisation based on the defined business strategy
  • Enhances decision making: Uses tools such as business data models to provide the organisation with a future-state view of the data landscape that is unencumbered by the specific data implementation details imposed by proprietary solutions or technologies
  • Enables effective data and analytics governance: Suggests who can take what actions with what data, and under what circumstances. Assists data and analytics leaders, and business and IS leadership in developing data governance processes and structures
  • Conducts business data modelling: Creates and manages business data models in all their forms, including conceptual models, relational database designs, message models and others
  • Maintains Company IS standards, architecture principles, strategy, roadmap and use cases, taking guidance from the Data Architecture and Governance Manager
  • Provides input and defines both the strategic direction and roadmap for the full life cycle of design, development, operation, and support of both on-prem Infrastructure and Cloud based systems and services
  • Validates solutions are aligned to regulatory compliance
  • Enable enterprise data management: Ensures that the architecture is used as a lens and a filter to identify, prioritise and execute the data and analytic initiatives with clear line of sight to enterprise strategies and business outcomes
  • Secures data and analytic assets: Aids in the analysis of data and analytics security requirements and solutions, and works with the IS Security function to ensure that enterprise data and analytics assets are treated as protected assets
  • Improves EIM performance: Aids efforts to improve business performance through enterprise data solutions and capabilities, such as master data management (MDM), metadata management, analytics, content management, data integration, and related data management or data infrastructure components
  • Any other duty as per instruction by Data Architecture and Governance Manager

Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc.:

  • Be able to translate the data architecture contribution to business outcomes into simple briefings for use by various data and analytics related roles
  • Organisationally savvy, able to navigate challenges, influence and persuade effectively
  • Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
  • Hands-on and in-depth experience designing and implementing data solutions, data and analytics management programs and platforms is preferred
  • Business domain, data/content and process understanding
  • Ability to analyse project, program, portfolio and product needs, as well as determine the resources needed to achieve objectives and overcome cross-functional barriers
  • Significant IT experience, with substantial experience in data/information system design and data governance. Oil and gas experience is preferred
  • Strong experience as a data analyst is highly desirable
  • System integration experience, including interface design, and familiarity with web-oriented architecture techniques
  • Data modelling and information classification expertise at the enterprise level
  • Understanding of common data architecture frameworks and data models
  • Understanding of metamodels, taxonomies and ontologies, as well as of the challenges of applying structured techniques (data modelling) to less-structured sources
  • Familiarity with data science concepts, as well as MDM, business intelligence, and data warehouse design and implementation techniques
  • Experience with distributed management and analytics in cloud and hybrid environments. Also, an understanding of a variety of data access and analytic approaches (for example, microservices and event-based architectures)
  • Ability to use Microsoft Visio to create architectural diagrams and concept representation
