Who We Are

At Iress, we believe technology should help people perform better every day. Since our beginning in 1993, people across financial services have trusted us to take their performance to the next level. From the world’s most established financial brands to new and disruptive players, we help improve every aspect of our clients’ businesses so that they can work better, every day. Iress is one of Australia’s largest technology companies and employs more than 2,250 people across Asia Pacific, North America, Africa and UK & Europe.

Role Purpose

Playing a key role in driving IRESS’ thought leadership and engineering practices and standards, this role supports the global delivery of platform capabilities through a combination of coaching, hands-on engineering and collaboration with platform engineers and platform delivery leads.

This role supports the definition and application of an IRESS Global Platform Strategy and capability that aligns with and contributes to IRESS’ Business and Technology Strategy. Working across a number of globally distributed teams, this role will help globally align the platform teams to deliver a high quality platform built on a strong foundation of hybrid cloud/hosted infrastructure.

The Platform Principle is a hands-on role that requires strong strategic awareness, knowledge of software engineering practices, and a proven and demonstrable ability to build large scale software solutions. Importantly, the role requires an ability to effectively strategise, problem solve and to collaborate with diverse technology teams as well as engage positively with non-technical communities both within IRESS and on client sites, with limited supervision and oversight. This is a global role and involves promoting the global IRESS technology brand to stakeholders, clients and at industry events as required, and as such this role will require elements of domestic and international travel.

Objectives & Responsibilities

This role is expected to provide internal consulting to coach, influence and drive the on-boarding of platform capabilities. In addition it will collaborate with platform consumers to formulate value-based roadmaps, opportunities for evolutionary adoption, and to better understand a platform consumer’s needs.

Having experience across a number of IRESS lines of business products, this role will be able to draw on experience to help in the formulation of roadmaps, solutions and direction for wider engineering and product teams in collaboration with wider engineering leadership through providing a platform context.

Driving and evangelising the global strategy, architecture and engineering of platform capabilities whilst balancing a future-based strategic vision against short-to-medium term delivery goals and outcomes, this role requires strong communication skills to clearly articulate the benefits of the platform strategy, ensuring platform consumers and owners are aware of and aligned to the vision, direction and value of the platform.

In coaching and supporting the wider technical communities, this role will also help validate technical expectations of solutions, manage technology risk and communicate implications of technology decisions.

To be successful in this role you will...

Have extensive experience and passion in software engineering including experience in modern practices, tooling and methods. Able to understand the diverse technology landscape and products and services within IRESS in order to effectively identify candidates for platform capabilities and provide a strategy to converge the landscape. Be able to understand how to leverage infrastructure and cloud services as an input to great software solutions.

Actively maintain strong expertise of current and emerging technologies and their potential application to IRESS. With the capability of contributing to broader business conversations beyond platform service engineering and technology.

You will be a modern thinker looking to the future and seeking for better ways of working, while ensuring practical, commercial outcomes are achieved in the present.

You will be able to relate effectively and positively with all people at all levels with IRESS with the ability to empathise with people and clients appropriately to support effective decision making. Having the confidence to act quickly and decisively.

Be a motivator and can be respected by the broad range of technologists at IRESS, creating loyalty, trust and being hands on when required. Soliciting the involvement of others to build a sense of ownership and collaborative environment.
