Role Overview
This newly formed team will focus on supporting the scaling of our Order Management System.
The first part of this key strategic initiative is to focus on improving configuration through programmatic change management, normalisation and automation.
The role will help drive quality outcomes for Iress clients and enable engineering teams by providing capabilities focused on the supportability and reliability of Iress software. The role ensures both engineering and operationally focused teams work seamlessly as one combined, end-2-end product engineering team.
The role must demonstrate an ability to work with a large global product engineering team supporting a complex mix of software, clients and delivery outcomes.

Your objectives and responsibilities will focus on...

  • Contribute, support and deliver the strategic vision set for support and reliability engineering with a strong focus on enabling speed, scale and quality, supporting Iress engineering delivery teams

  • Drives increased automation throughout operational engineering activities and remove “hands-on” work, driving an effective efficiency outcome

  • Ensure services provided extend product engineering teams through to production, enabling speed and scale globally

  • Ensures existing clients and solutions continue to operate effectively

  • In conjunction with Delivery Capability, supports and participates in a transformation in how people work within and across teams

  • Monitor Iress systems for alarms and outages, and take appropriate action in line with Iress guidelines

  • Define, promote and support the team methodologies and processes and actively participates in the continual improvement of these.

  • Provide after-hours emergency on-call rotational support (including weekends and public holidays when required).

To be successful in this role you will…
Have a keen interest in technology, automation and software engineering. Strong knowledge of modern software technology, consumer trends in technology and engineering principles and practices - automates through the implementation of solutions “as-code.”

Be a modern thinker, looking to the future while ensuring practical outcomes are achieved. You will have personal accountability, self motivated and outcome driven who is able to draw support from the wider engineering community when required and solicit the involvement of others to build a sense of ownership and engagement with remote teams.

Be comfortable working under pressure in a dynamic, fast paced environment. You will be flexible and able to change your priorities aligned to the demands of the business and be analytical and logical with a proactive approach to problem solving.

Possess excellent all round communication skills with people at all levels internally and externally and capable to contribute to broader business conversations. Can empathise with people and clients appropriately and use that empathy in effective decision making and be confident to act quickly and decisively.


Technical Skills
You will have a working knowledge of modern software and technology:

  • CI/CD processes and tools such as BuildKite, Jenkins, Azure DevOps or any other similar tool

  • Experience working on Cloud platforms, ideally AWS services such as VPC, EC2, S3, RDS, ECS, etc.

  • Infrastructure management software (e.g. Terraform, Cloud Formation)

  • Configuration management tools such as Ansible / Chef / Puppet

  • Engineering and scripting skills (e.g. Bash, Python, C#, Kotlin)

  • Have a good understanding of Window-based and Linux-based software.

  • Working experience in databases (e.g. Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle or NoSQL DBs)

Ideally you will have knowledge or exposure to:

  • Application monitoring and relevant monitoring tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace or AppDynamics

  • Experience in docker container management and orchestration of containers such as ECS, AKS, EKS, GKE or native Kubernetes.
