The Team

The Global Financial Crimes Compliance (“GFCC”) EMEA STOR Investigations Team ( “ESIT” ) is responsible for identification and reporting of suspicious transactions. The team investigates Market abuse cases for Europe, Middle East & Africa (“EMEA”) booked business to support decision making in regard of filing Suspicious Transaction Order Reports ( “STOR” ) to Regulatory bodies.

The Role

Forming part of the regional AML Investigations group, this London based role will join a dedicated Markets Investigations Team, primarily focused on EUR activity across our EU legal entities. The team works in partnership with colleagues in UK, Markets Surveillance, Line of Business Compliance, in-country Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLRO’s) and GFCC teams to manage the risk and investigation lifecycle, of complex Market abuse cases ensuring we meet internal and external requirements. The role is predominantly investigations based across all asset classes, including conducting research; data acquisition; compiling supporting evidence and documentation; providing STOR filing recommendations to Senior Management; and supporting the accurate identification and timely reporting of suspicious activity to relevant regulators.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations from a multitude of sources including Systemic Monitoring, Manual Referrals, Law Enforcement and or our internal Financial Intelligence Unit
  • Undertake Market activity and client / company research using in-house databases and publicly available information to identify whether activity is unusual, and ultimately support the decision-making process regarding reporting to Regulators.
  • Escalate unusual activity and present cases to EMEA LOBC and Management.
  • Draft STOR’s and submission to Regulator.
  • Provide feedback and escalate issues identified from STOR investigations into client’s activity.
  • Actively develop knowledge of Market Abuse methods and typologies, applying these characteristics through interrogation of transaction data to identify unusual activity.
  • Participate in proactive investigative projects in support of national, regional or global priorities and initiatives, including engagement with external partners.
  • Develop subject matter expertise through knowledge, research and training, leading to new investigative approaches to uncover unusual activity.
  • Share knowledge and experience through briefings, presentations and written products
  • Production of data, MI and analysis to explain the findings from investigations
  • Efficiently respond to regulatory enquiries from the FCA and other overseas regulators
  • Prioritize multiple tasks and escalate issues when appropriate

Education and Experience

  • Strong financial markets knowledge, especially equities and fixed income
  • Good understanding of the Market Abuse Regulation and typologies associated with insider dealing and market manipulation
  • Familiarity with types of market participant and mainstream trading and asset allocation strategies
  • Ability to keep up to date with developments in global financial markets
  • Investigative skills and analytical mind-set, including problem solving ability and the ability to work independently with an excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated skills in risk assessment, the ability to make sound decisions, including escalation when appropriate, regarding STOR and AML risk
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and bring tasks to completion within established timeframes
