What we will offer you:

The team you will be joining is a large global team. The Glasgow team makes up a third of the employees in this space, so you will have the opportunity to grow your career on this team. The team consists of people in various different levels, some of the best developers have come from a C++ or C# background and thrived on this team. We have just completed a rewrite of our application which is now hosted in the private cloud, using kubernetes. We have a desire to learn and keep on top of new technologies and encourage innovative solutions!

The role involves:

  • Writing clean, secure, fully tested code.
  • Working with our stakeholders in the Product team to ensure requirements are development ready, ensuring UI designs exist and missing gaps are identified
  • Making architectural decisions in conjunction with our dedicated Architectural team for large parts of a client facing application
  • Proactively identifying areas of improvement, and defining solutions for these issues.
  • Troubleshooting the occasional production issue.
  • Supporting less experienced developers on the team. We have a team with various different levels of experience, helping them grow technically is important to us.

Interested? Here is what we are looking for:

  • Experience in developing applications using an Object Orientated language. Java 11 is what the team uses – but a willingness to learn Java if you come from another OO background is important
  • Or experience in developing applications using front end languages and libraries. The team uses Angular 12 but knowledge of any modern Javascript framework and a willingness to learn Angular 12 is what is important
  • Understanding of cloud architecture and infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of devops practises, including CI/CD, monitoring and deployment patterns.
  • Strong ethics as doing the right thing is important to us. We place a lot of value on thorough code reviews.
  • Attention to detail with good organisational skills. We look after a large part of the website, so keeping on top of any changes that have a deadline is a must.
  • A can do attitude! Even when something seems impossible, if it is important we try every avenue. Knowing when to escalate is key.
