Head of Market Risk Management – Global Treasury, Chief Investment Office and Corporate

Treasury/CIO oversees a $500+Bn global fixed income investment portfolio used to manage the Firm’s interest rate and currency exposure. The portfolio comprises a wide range of fixed income products, including asset-and-mortgage backed securities, municipal bonds, and government securities. The role is to lead the Market Risk function supporting the business as part of the broader CTC Risk team. CTC Risk is part of the overall Risk and Compliance second line of defense function of the firm. The role reports into the Chief Risk Officer of the CTC division.

Description:

CTC Market Risk is responsible for managing the market risks of the business function. The head of Market Risk will lead a team of 25+ professionals across the Globe. The team is also responsible for stress analytics, building new risk frameworks and adapting firm-wide approaches to the business unit. The team is also responsible for managing the Risk Appetite for the division. The successful candidate will be working with senior management and division heads, senior portfolio managers and risk leads to come up with appropriate sizing and strategy for the investment portfolio.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead a team of risk professionals across multiple levels of seniority in the group
  • Defining a risk framework for market risk for the business function
  • Analysis of the market risks in the investment portfolio
  • Approving new investment activity with appropriate due diligence and considerations for the asset composition and concentration risks
  • Stress testing and building new scenarios to consider shifting market conditions
  • Risk Appetite analysis and maintaining records for changes in risk profile over time
  • Annual capital stress testing of the portfolio and partnering with the other risk teams for submission of results to the regulators
  • Significant interaction with on-site and horizontal supervisory teams
  • Work with senior portfolio managers on emerging risks, consideration for market trends and ongoing monitoring of the portfolio
  • Consider and evaluate hedging strategies with particular focus on available-for-sale portfolios
  • Understand and work with the Finance department on hedge effectiveness analysis
  • Experience managing large portfolios with risk complexity in Fixed Income
  • Evaluate new products and analyze fit into the broader strategy and risk complexity

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 15+ years of leading a Market Risk team at a GSIB or complex financial institution.
  • Proven track record of risk expertise and leading teams of risk professionals
  • Background managing risks in a Fixed Income portfolio specifically securitized products, interest rates, foreign exchange, municipal securities, and derivatives
  • Strong understanding of derivatives risk management
  • Strong analytical background with sound understanding of transaction flow of market making or investment portfolios
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ability to deliver effective presentations to senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively across different businesses and functional areas
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with thorough attention to detail
  • Good people leadership skills and track record of managing large teams.

  • Collaborative approach to problem solving

Preferred Additional Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of pension accounting and asset/liability management a plus
  • Knowledge of accounting practices for managing bank portfolios a plus
  • Experience with AI/ML techniques is a plus

Education

  • Bachelor's/Master’s Degree in business or finance.
