Department and Role Summary

Within the Global Mobility (GM) function, the Special Work Arrangements (SWA) Team manages exceptional work arrangements that fall outside of traditional expatriate assignments or Business Travel Tax Program (BTTP). This includes but not limited to Brexit commuters, cross border director appointments and senior employees with a business requirement to work regularly between two locations.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to support the design and policy development of SWA, as the future of work evolves in a post pandemic and Brexit world. The role will report into the GM Cross Border and Commuting Tax Manager and support ongoing management and review of SWA alongside other related projects. There will be close collaboration with the BT Ops Team, who provide operational support for this population.

SWAs impact senior employees across all lines of business and locations, requiring engagement with a broad spectrum of stakeholders. This is a role that requires expatriate tax experience along with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills to effectively solve complex issues and advise key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

A wide and varied role that includes but is not limited to:

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis to support SWA policy recommendations
  • Develop and deliver training materials to HR stakeholders
  • Partner with Tax, Local HR, Payroll, Legal and Benefits colleagues to assess feasibility of SWA
  • Collaborate with the BT Ops Team to set up special payroll arrangements
  • Liaise with external advisors for tax advice and initiate tax services for employees
  • Prepare internal communications and documentation
  • Monitor and annual review of SWA and their payroll/tax set up
  • Collaborate with GM Tax and BT teams to share insights and streamline processes
  • Support year-end UK reporting to HMRC for short term business visitors into the UK
  • Support year-end compensation sourcing and tax rate instructions for SWA cases
  • Support ad hoc project deliverables, including review of cross border Directors, frontier workers and work from home policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • Expatriate tax experience (ATTT/CTA or equivalent preferred)
  • Ability to make sound business decisions and understand when to escalate issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with senior employees and influence stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and vendor relationship management skills
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented individual with ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly with Excel and PowerPoint.
