The Function

The Global Financial Crimes Compliance (“GFCC Compliance”) Anti Money Laundering (“AML”) Transaction Monitoring Coverage Strategy Team is responsible for the strategic design, development, and maintenance of the AML transaction monitoring programme, which must be robust, sustainable, and able to adapt to a constantly evolving risk landscape.

The Role

As an AML Transaction Monitoring Coverage Strategist, this person ensures the products, services and customers across Europe, Middle East and Africa (“EMEA”) have monitoring coverage that mitigates ML risk presented by the services offered. Working in a team and in an innovative manner this person will design, develop, implement and maintain monitoring coverage and document the rationale for monitoring and support ongoing maintenance processes. It will be key for this person to be in close contact with Line of Business (“LOB”) and Compliance stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of the monitoring strategies required by local laws, regulations and guidance are satisfied. This person will also help organize deliverables, draft and present documentation for senior management discussions, regulatory exams and audits.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Understanding the Firm’s high-level products, services and customer types; high-level transaction types and flows; and the ML risks presented
  • Conducting transaction monitoring coverage assessments of new, expanding or changing business products and services
  • Designing, developing and implementing new and innovative monitoring strategies to continually improve monitoring coverage
  • Assessing monitoring coverage in the context of internal AML risk assessments and external sources (e.g. AML laws, regulations and guidance)
  • Analyzing large datasets to inform existing and determine future monitoring coverage
  • Maintaining and assessing transaction monitoring programme effectiveness through adherence to standard operating procedures
  • Supporting the documentation and delivery of internal audits and regulatory exam requests
  • Developing presentation materials and communicating monitoring strategies to senior management and governance committees
  • Manage and develop relationship with Legal, LOB, sanctions and relevant business and technology partners and stakeholders
  • Collaboration with Compliance Technology to identify requirements that support the implementation of sustainable and effective monitoring strategies
  • Support projects and deliverables often tied to regulatory commitments

The successful candidate requires:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving, research and logical reasoning skills
  • Ability to critically assess both qualitative and quantitative information to identify optimal outcomes
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and analyzing large datasets
  • Ability at multi-tasking and meeting deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • An enthusiastic, results orientated and team player approach


  • Batchelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • One to two years AML/KYC or other anti-financial crime experience preferred
  • ACAMS or similar anti-financial crime accreditation preferred
