Infrastructure, Finance Lawyer – Macquarie Asset Management, Private Credit - Fixed term - 12 months

Macquarie Group

Location: Greater London

Job Type: Full time

We’re seeking an infrastructure finance lawyer to join the Macquarie Asset Management Private Credit (“MAM Private Credit”) legal team to support our investment team based in London. This role would report directly to the Head of Legal for MAM Private Credit.

The role will be a one-year fixed term contract.

You will be an integral part of the MAM Private Credit Legal team, working closing with the Investment Team as well as with the Fundraising and Fund Management Teams. MAM Private Credit’s investment strategies include infrastructure debt, secured income real estate and fund financing. The role will primarily be focused on infrastructure debt investments but you will also be involved in investments for the real estate and fund financing strategies.

In this role you will:

  • Play a key role in supporting transactional activity, evaluating and advising on the legal risks associated with investments originated from the EMEA region. This would include review of the documentation package and inputting into the credit approval and execution processes.
  • Advise on applicable law and regulatory developments, particularly those connected with our investment strategies but also more broadly.
  • Provide Legal support for MAM Private Credit’s client/investor solutions team where needed.
  • Implement ad hoc legal and regulatory projects (including the legal aspects of the projects to completion).

To be successful you will have:

  • Approximately [3-7] years post qualification experience in English law gained either at an international law firm and/or leading financial institution.
  • Expertise in secured lending; strong technical knowledge and understanding of typical forms of debt documentation used by institutional investors (including term sheets, mandate letters, credit agreements, note purchase agreements, intercreditor agreements, guarantees and security documents and confidentiality agreements).
  • Experience working on infrastructure debt across a variety of sectors; expertise in at least some of the following: project financing, energy financing, renewables, utilities and transport financings
  • Knowledge of and experience of secondary loan transfer documentation is an advantage but not required.
  • Qualifications in any European or US law would be an advantage but not required. However, you will be expected to have general knowledge of European legal systems and how they can impact lending transactions in Europe.
  • Knowledge of investment funds and their structures is also an advantage, since many of MAM Private Credit’s clients (i.e. the investors in the transactions you will work on) are investment funds.
  • Good working understanding of regulatory matters affecting providing debt in the UK and Europe, with the ability to distil complex regulation and communicate it effectively.
  • A pragmatic approach and the ability to strike an appropriate balance between achieving the commercial goals of the business while protecting the interests of both Macquarie Asset Management and our investment management clients.
  • High-quality drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, project-manage and co-ordinate large projects – including internal stakeholder management – in a dynamic global environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, initiative and a good eye for detail.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively.
