Microsoft’s 1-year Internship is an opportunity to spend an entire academic year working for one of the biggest Technology companies in the world, as a full-time paid employee, before returning to university to complete your degree. Students join us for the internship in July and it takes place between your second and last year of university.

About the role

Technology Solutions Specialist

The main goal of Microsoft Technology Solutions Specialist (TSs) is to win the technical decision of customers to purchase and use our technology - with the Intelligence TS focusing on Power BI products & services. As a TS, you work within a virtual team of technical, partner and consulting resources to help educate your customers at a technical level, demonstrate, and prove our solutions, and win the technical decision, allowing the team to achieve/exceed quarterly Microsoft 365 and Power BI sales/usage targets in your accounts.

Being part of this team will allow you to maintain and develop your deep technical expertise across Microsoft and non-Microsoft cloud-based infrastructure technologies. Based on the tremendous opportunity for digital transformation across every organisation, you will focus on one of four key solution areas: Security, Azure, Modern Work or Application Development.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering demonstrations (e.g., Architectural Design Sessions, and Proof of Concept sessions) of Power BI products, services, and integration; presenting and applying architecture patterns for design, development, configuration, and deployment/adoption/governance planning of solutions based on Power BI; applying sales methodologies (e.g., Challenger sales); leveraging partner/customer teams in solution design & proof.​
  • Knowledge of enterprise-level business analytics, including data modelling, report and dashboard creation, data security, governance and compliance; and other technical and industry knowledge.
  • Organising technical discussions with customers and establishing rules of engagement (e.g., role boundaries, handoff strategies) for extended teams, leveraging knowledge of processes (e.g., Managed Service Provider, Managed Certified Professional), tools, and programs (e.g., FastTrack, customer investment funding).
  • You will leverage foundational knowledge of resources (e.g., roles, Microsoft Technology Center, demo sites, virtual sites); conveying blocker impact to product teams.​
  • Proactively identifying learning gaps; monitoring & responding to internal tech community posts, attending community calls, sessions, hackathons, etc.; practicing expertise by communicating with customers, partners, and senior colleagues to expand knowledge of architecture.​
  • You will scale through partners, acting as liaison between the partner and team and facilitating partner resources and processes; supporting partner technical capacity by identifying Power BI & business intelligence skill and resource gaps and providing feedback to internal teams (e.g., One Commercial Partner).

Qualifications

Currently pursuing or have completed a Bachelor's OR Master's degree in Business Administration/Management, Marketing, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.

  • Strong desire and business acumen for technical solution selling.
  • A desire to develop negotiation, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English
