As Project Principal you will be responsible for:

Managing a portfolio of projects of various sizes across several sectors
Providing the Birmingham structures team with leadership and guidance focused on project delivery and technical quality, including mentoring and supporting technical staff
Having established relationships with fellow professionals and client organisations in the Midlands
Having a knowledge of the roles of fellow professionals on multidisciplinary projects (architect, quantity surveyor, building services etc) and interfacing and coordinating with them effectively
Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of current technical engineering codes and practices and taking a role in technical matters both at project and regional level
Managing commercial and/or contractual aspects of projects
Managing project budgets, including staffing forecasts for both programming and expenditure
Providing support in the development of the business including preparation of fee proposals and bid documents

Required for the position of Project Principal:

High quality, hands-on conceptual/technical/analytical skills in structural engineering
Detailed knowledge of current design codes and design best practice across all structural materials
A good awareness of the latest thinking in terms of sustainable, digital and offsite design
A good awareness of the wider engineering aspects of building design including geotechnics and below ground drainage
A track record of successfully delivering a range of building projects across sectors
The ability to manage a project through all stages of design and construction
Self-motivation with good organisational capability and an ability to inspire your team members
Effective verbal interpersonal and written communication skills
A focus on ensuring client satisfaction and securing repeat business
Commercial awareness including the ability to evaluate, rationalise and manage risk
A broad knowledge of structural design software and drawing packages
Preferred, but not required

A broad knowledge of the built environment, architecture, building design and construction
A strong sense of personal responsibility for your work
The ability to win work and promote the services of Mott MacDonald
Experience of the assessment and refurbishment/remodelling of existing structures
An appreciation of UK construction law and contracts
