Location: Ipswich/Manchester/Leeds

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Mechanical Engineer based at one of Freightliner Wagon Vehicle Maintenance Facilities, reporting directly to the Senior Rolling Stock Engineer. Key responsibilities of this role include ensuring technical compliance to Freightliner maintenance plans & policies to enable the production of safe, reliable wagons in line with company availability & budget requirements.

You will be responsible for delivering technical projects to enhance the reliability and safety of the company’s wagon fleets while reducing the overall costs associated with the maintenance, renewal, and repair. You will also act a source of technical support and advice to the Engineering Production organisation.

This post has one direct report, the position of Mechanical Engineer, who will provide support to this role.

Skills and experience:

• Engineering qualification, preferably to HNC standard in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• At least 5 years of broadly based experience of Traction & Rolling Stock.
• At least 3 years’ experience in supervisory or man-management and the ability to make sound engineering decisions.
• Contract management skills.

This post is safety critical and is therefore subject to an occupational health medical which includes Drugs and Alcohol screening. In addition, this post carries an on-call responsibility. Some occasional unsociable working hours will also be required.
