Wheelset & Transport Controller

Freightliner Maintenance Ltd

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Wheelset & Transport Controller to join Freightliner Maintenance Ltd based out of our facility at SMMD. Reporting to the Materials Manager, the role will be responsible for developing and planning the wheelset requirements for the maintenance of various wagon fleets across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Materials Manager and the UK maintenance management team to develop and plan wheelset requirements
  • Develop relationships with both internal customers and external suppliers to achieve maximum efficiency for the control of wagon wheelsets and ancillary supplies
  • Manage the road transport plan, liaising between the drivers and stakeholders to meet the transport needs of the business; this to include but not be limited to the movement of wheelsets
  • Coordinate and report on the day-to-day maintenance and transport activities of wagon wheelsets
  • Monitor the availability and utilisation of wagon wheelsets across Freightliner depots and third-party storage sites
  • Identify, monitor, and report risks to the supply chain
  • Assist the Materials Manager with data trending and KPI evaluation of wheelset and transport management
  • Engage in process auditing with travel to UK maintenance facilities - providing feedback, support and training to colleagues as necessary to enhance wheelset management

Requirements:

  • Experience in an administration role in an engineering environment
  • Knowledge of material control, expediting, negotiation and logistics
  • Experience of the road transport industry
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Commitment to safe working practices
  • Full UK driving licence

The successful candidate should be a cohesive team player, committed to providing a high standard of service to the business and who attacks goals and objectives with drive, energy, and enthusiasm. A flexible approach to working is required as this role could include domestic travel, which may require overnight stays away from home.
