Joining Enterprise Analytics & Data

The Enterprise Analytics and Data (EAD) team is to enable consumer intimacy and the intelligent enterprise. We are driving, scaling and monetizing our investment in data to drive faster decisions, personalize consumer experience, and realize top-line and bottom-line impact across the value chain.

To unleash the value of data for PMI, we are driving a holistic data and analytics transformation program including the shift to a federation of data & analytics skills and capabilities to accelerate PMI on the journey to become data driven.

What’s the purpose of this role?

  • The purpose of the Principal Data Scientist Corporate role is to deliver impactful advanced analytical capabilities that drive key data and insights enabled decisions in the Corporate domain, focusing on Finance and P&C. This is pivotal role that will have visibility at executive levels.

  • As we transition to the federated advanced analytics modus operandi in PMI, this individual will inspire cross-functionally on the advanced analytical dimension by leading experimentation, innovation, and creation of advanced analytical capabilities in the Corporate domain
  • You will leverage on the opportunity to crosspollinate and amplify the impact made with advanced analytics in real-life business context, contributing to the fulfilment of PMI smoke-free and beyond nicotine future.
  • While we see this role expanding within the function and company, in general, we’re looking for a clear willingness to learn new processes and technologies from day one that will be critical as we seek to remain agile and innovative.

Your day-to-day

As Principal Data Scientist for Corporate you will:
  • Drive the creation of advanced analytical capabilities, empowering the decision making in the domain of Corporate. Specifically, you will plan and lead software construction activities for strategic, large, and complex advanced analytics projects.
  • Derive the overarching strategy for advanced analytics capabilities for Finance and P&C functions, within an established information architecture, that supports the development and secure operations of advanced analytical solutions and services.
  • Set direction and lead the introduction, innovation and use of advanced analytical capabilities to meet overall business requirements in the Corporate domain.
  • Lead the team of data science experts, devising the advanced analytical capabilities (frameworks, algorithms, etc.) and contributing to the delivery of strategic advanced analytical solutions.
  • Design experiments, define the logic for A/B testing and experiment measurement, using generally accepted methods of confidence testing.
  • Identify and establish the veracity of internal and external data sources, essential in the advanced analytics context, which should contribute to the overall Data Strategy for Finance & P&C functions.
  • Take ownership in leading feature engineering, model exploration and lifecycle management of advanced analytical models in the Corporate domain.
  • Partner with other Principal Data Scientists and members of Advanced Analytics Centre of Excellence from EAD, to develop data science policy, standards, and guidelines for the enterprise, leveraging on Zero Overhead Principle as well as to ensure compliance with ethical guidelines for data privacy and automated decision systems.
  • Work closely with various data experts from EAD and other specialists from IT, to ensure coherent end-to-end delivery of advanced analytical solutions and services for Finance and P&C functions.

What is needed to succeed in this Role?

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Data Analyst or ML/AI Engineer. Preferably for Insurance, Banking or Fintech industry.
  • 2+ years of experience in experimentation, process and control design, time series analysis, pricing analytics, regression modelling, probabilistic modelling, optimisation of operational performance, etc.
  • 2+ years applied experience in building complex production datasets that enable both Data Science and BI and in integrating production ML models with experiments.
  • Strong background and knowledge in statistics, probability, reinforcement learning, likelihood estimations, optimization, causality testing.
  • Experience working with AWS-based technology stack (S3, SageMaker, EMR). Knowledge of cloud and real-time orchestration such as K8 is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and Python. Experience with data visualization in PowerBI.
  • Curious business mindset with an ability to condense complex concepts and analysis into clear and concise takeaways that drive action.
  • Demonstrate ability to take on projects with a sense of ownership and ambitious attitude.
  • Excellent communication, social and presentation skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Minimum of a BSc degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Econometrics, or related field. Ideally, MSc or PhD in related field.
