At PMI, we’re totally transforming our business, and building our future on smoke-free products.

With huge change, comes huge opportunity. So, wherever you join us, you’ll enjoy the freedom to dream up and deliver better, brighter solutions and the space to move your career forward in endlessly different directions!

It’s an exciting, ever-changing environment – ideal for experts who are driven, disruptive and dynamic. If you’re comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the challenge of shaping things from the ground up, you’ll be in your element here. There’s endless space to develop too, so you’ll be progressing your career as fast as you build our smoke-free future.

External Affairs is a growing team, full of fresh opportunities. Our smoke-free transformation is completely changing the way we engage. We have stakeholders to talk to and brave new messages to share. We need talented people who are also excited by our sense of purpose to help expand our influence – on the media, legislators, health professionals, national governments and public policy-makers.

We are currently looking for a Manager, External Affairs Research and Insights. The position supports the External Affairs (EA) function by executing qualitative and quantitative opinion research studies at a global, regional, and country level. These opinion research studies focus on fiscal, regulatory, and societal issues surrounding Philip Morris International and the tobacco industry – this role does not conduct market research or studies related to the marketing and sale of PMI products to adult consumers.

You will:
  • Support markets, regions, and other central functions with the execution of qualitative and quantitative opinion research studies. This includes, but is not limited to:
o Developing clear objectives for each project
o Designing the methodology for each project
o Drafting focus group discussion guides and survey research questionnaires
o Analyzing and interpreting results
o Preparing reports
  • Deliver opinion research findings to local, regional, and management teams
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of External Affairs campaigns which seek to build support for tobacco harm reduction and the creation of regulatory environments which ensure adult smokers have access to, and accurate information, about smoke-free alternatives to cigarettes.
  • Train colleagues across the globe on how opinion research can be utilized in EA campaigns

Who we’re looking for:
  • At least five to ten year’s work experience in either a major corporation or consultancy managing public opinion research projects.
o Public opinion research projects are those which deal with political, fiscal, regulatory, or societal issues – they are not projects which aim to determine how to market a specific brand or product.
  • Strong statistical and analytical capabilities including experience with statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, STATA, or R)
  • Experience developing qualitative discussion guides and quantitative questionnaires.
  • Experience providing counsel and strategic advice based on research findings
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office
  • Experience with political polling and/or international or tobacco related opinion research projects are a strong asset.

Philip Morris International: Delivering a Smoke-Free Future

Philip Morris International (PMI) is leading a transformation in the tobacco industry to create a smoke-free future and ultimately replace cigarettes with smoke-free products to the benefit of adults who would otherwise continue to smoke, society, the company and its shareholders. PMI is a leading international tobacco company engaged in the manufacture and sale of cigarettes, smoke-free products and associated electronic devices and accessories, and other nicotine-containing products in markets outside the U.S. PMI is building a future on a new category of smoke-free products that, while not risk-free, are a much better choice than continuing to smoke. Through multidisciplinary capabilities in product development, state-of-the-art facilities and scientific substantiation, PMI aims to ensure that its smoke-free products meet adult consumer preferences and rigorous regulatory requirements. PMI’s smoke-free IQOS product portfolio includes heat-not-burn and nicotine-containing vapor products. As of June 30, 2019, PMI estimates that approximately 8.0 million adult smokers around the world have already stopped smoking and switched to PMI’s heat-not-burn product, available for sale in 48 markets in key cities or nationwide under the IQOS brand.
