Role purpose and overview

The Telegraph is seeking an ambitious journalist to work on some of its most critical digital products that serve its commuter audiences.

In this role, they will work mostly on Front Page, The Telegraph’s flagship and award-winning twice-daily newsletter.

They will work at a fast pace, in collaboration with colleagues around the newsroom, and must have very good editorial judgment, write clean copy, and be a demonstrable self-starter.

They should be confident in developing a voice and relationship with newsletter readers - and keen to work on new projects to further develop the acquisition and retention of subscribers.

Key responsibilities

The Front Page Newsletter Editor will:

  • write, produce and send Front Page five days a week
  • liaise with multiple editorial departments to ensure use of the best material
  • use analytics and study relevant data to inform decision-making
  • help to maximise digital subscriptions through concise storytelling and headlines
  • work with Newsletters team to A/B test subject lines and marketing promotions
  • work with Homepage / App team to send notifications about our products
  • work with Community team on engagement projects, such as weekly news quiz
  • take a lead in ensuring the quality of the weekend editions of Front Page
  • keep abreast of industry trends to help develop ideas for how to reach new readers

Key skills

  • Experience of working as a journalist in a busy newsroom
  • Excellent editorial judgment, with confidence in selecting articles to use
  • The ability to write quickly, concisely and with flair - including snappy headlines/sells
  • Digital publishing experience and confidence in using content management systems
  • Ability to show initiative and work well under pressure
  • A broad interest in Telegraph output, from news and business to sport and culture
  • A proactive and collaborative approach - as well as the ability to work independently
  • An understanding of The Telegraph audience and how to engage it
  • Knowledge of The Telegraph’s subscriptions strategy
  • Full knowledge of media law is preferred

Please note: this role will involve early starts to work on the AM edition of Front Page
