Description of role:
We are seeking a Project Engineer R&D for the Friction Welding and Processing Section which has facilities at our headquarters in Cambridge as well as our technology centre in Rotherham, UK. The Section performs cutting edge research into friction stir welding, linear and rotary friction welding as well as a range of advanced process variants. We support a diverse range of industrial clients with the challenges they face. The Section has a global client base spanning a broad range of industrial sectors, including aerospace, power generation, transport and defence. We are looking for a candidate to support our research and development activities in the Cambridge facility. The successful candidate will enjoy responsibility for, and rapidly gain experience in, these areas. You will contribute to the core skills of an exciting and innovative established team of engineers.
The successful applicant's main duties and responsibilities would include (depending on experience):
- Managing research projects within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Defining experimental and analytical characterisation work.
- Data analysis and interpretation.
- Producing high quality reports and/or research papers arising from project work.
- Generating business opportunities.
- Responding to technical enquiries from clients with clear, accurate, comprehensive information.
The role would also include:
- Identifying and developing business opportunities.
- Hosting, visiting and presenting to clients.
- Understanding customers' requirements, accurately costing the effort required and writing detailed, high quality proposals and project reports.
- Working with colleagues to bid for publically funded research projects.
- Maintaining and developing your own technical expertise and reputation.
This position will require occasional travel both in the UK and abroad.
The ability of successful candidate to apply for UK security clearance in this role will be beneficial.
