Federal Relations Manager

Job Summary

As a member of the Federal Relations team, serves as an advocate for Aflac’s position with Members of Congress and their staffs; works with management and internal subject matter experts to determine the company’s position on legislative and regulatory proposals; represents Aflac’s Political Action Committee at political events and fundraisers.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Researches, tracks and analyzes proposed or emerging legislation and regulations to determine potential impact on the organization
  • Represents Aflac at legislative hearings, policy discussions, political events and fundraisers
  • Attends and reports out on federal agency, trade association and coalition briefings and meetings
  • Attends and reports out on internal business units and corporate function meetings
  • Builds bi-partisan relationships with policymakers including Members of Congress and their staffs, trade associations and coalitions
  • Establishes and builds relationships with representatives from other companies and organizations based in Georgia, Alabama, and other key states
  • Adheres to all applicable laws regarding lobbying and political contributions
  • Creates presentations for internal and external audiences about legislative and political issues
  • Develops reports about the activities of the department for internal distribution
  • Facilitates continuous improvements within the Federal Relations team; assists in the creation and ongoing maintenance of policies and procedures that ensure the highest quality of service and advocacy while maintaining consistency with corporate objectives
  • Performs related duties as required

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree Political science, health policy, public policy, communications or a related field
  • six years of professional job-related work experience
  • experience in legislative or regulatory affairs or a related field

Education & Experience Preferred

  • Master's Degree Political science, health policy, public policy, communications or a related field

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to be persuasive, clear and concise

  • Ability to understand, interpret and clearly communicate concepts in laws and regulations related to Aflac’s business

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, the products, processes, and terminology is preferred
