We do not have traditional gating controls but instead focus on enabling and empowering our customers (Product Engineering teams) by providing guidance and working with them to better understand how they develop their products. The Product Security Partnership teams at Atlassian are responsible for providing tailored product security support to a product in order to measurably improve its security maturity. Our engineering workforce has grown as well as our software footprint and we have invested in partnerships to help us scale product security to better support our internal customers. Your responsibilities as an Application Security Engineer are centered on uplifting the security posture of your partnering product by reviewing new features and architectural designs and performing threat models of the software components. You need to audit (read and understand) source code and be able to test the application to detect and prevent web application vulnerabilities. You will have the opportunity to work with talented colleagues to empower engineering teams to build secure software by default.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • Experience working in software development and security-focused roles
  • Demonstrated understanding of web application security
  • Experience in cloud security architecture and infrastructure (we use AWS)
  • Experience auditing code (completing code reviews) in languages like Java, JavaScript, Python, or Go, and scripting languages
  • Identify and prioritize risks by performing Threat Modeling exercises with engineering teams
  • Adept experience providing security knowledge and guidance to the engineering function

It's great, but not required, if you have:

  • Published contributions to the security community
  • Presentation experience at industry events
  • Experience working with compliance, privacy, IT, networking or related functions
Compensation

At Atlassian, we tie our base pay ranges to role and level. In the United States, that means your base pay ranges will fall into one of three geographic pay zones depending on your location. Our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $176,300.00 - $270,400.00
Zone B: $158,600.00 - $243,300.00
Zone C: $164,300.00 - $224,400.00

Within each range, base pay is ultimately determined based on your skills, expertise, and experience. This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and/or equity.
