About the Role


Role Purpose
The role will provide environmental and climate expertise and leadership across the Legacy Assets organization. Primary responsibilities will be to support Legacy Assets and ensure the climate initiatives are being executed across the organization in a consistent manner. This role will focus on enhancing BHP’s resilience to the physical impacts of climate change, developing decarbonisation strategies, and mitigating environmental risks. It will also apply strategic analysis to review and support Group requirements and foster strong relationships to help the business demonstrate environmental stewardship. This will require working collaboratively and cross-functionally with Legacy Assets teams as well as other parts of BHP (e.g., Resource Center of Excellence, Geotech, Planning, Projects, Corporate Affairs, Risk, and HSE).

About the Role

  • Support and improve Environment Controls Framework across Legacy Assets by seeking improvements to Legacy Assets level Environmental standards, procedures, tools, and other elements of the LAGO Control Framework.
  • Direct and manage consultants performing work/studies on behalf of Legacy Assets that will deliver value to inform environment and climate/environment issues
  • Principal Climate and Environment will coordinate the physical climate and environmental risk at an Asset-level and work with the Legacy Assets team to ensure consistency.
  • Role will focus on enhancing BHP’s resilience to the physical impacts of climate change, developing decarbonisation strategies, and mitigating environmental risks
  • Execute the actions leveraged from the Climate Change Collaboration working group.
  • Work with the disciplines across the various regions to ensure agreed initiatives are progressing according to the plan
  • Support the Reporting and Assurance team in the adoption of new Group reporting requirements, as applicable.
  • Organize the preparation of annual water, biodiversity (questionnaire) GHG forecasts and the update of GHG targets.
  • Provides input to the development of the sustainability KPIs for Legacy Assets to meet Group targets.
  • Monitor Legacy Assets progress against Group Environment and Climate targets.
  • Provide input to the preparation of the Legacy Assets Sustainability Initiatives for the Sustainability Report
  • Support Legacy Assets applications of BHP Climate Change comprehensive series of metrics, targets as they apply to Legacy Assets

About You

  • Environmental and Climate strategy implementation: Demonstrated ability to negotiate positive outcomes with diverse ranges of stakeholders to achieve effective implementation.
  • Leadership: Proven contribution in establishing business plans and supporting the delivery of those plans via effective leadership
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or science-related discipline (Environment, Chemistry, Biology, etc)
  • Demonstrated experience in role with environmental and climate management focus experience/competency in
  • Ecological impacts/Endangered
  • Species/Habitats
  • Environmental Impact Assessment and Risk Management
  • Environmental Monitoring and Data Management
  • Climate Change Adaptation
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management
