Manager, Software Development Engineering


Are you interested to see your code making money in the real world? The Metasearch team is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Settle team. You will be responsible for leading software and machine learning engineers responsible for the metasearch bidding platform. Your work will enable data analysts, campaign managers and data scientists to use real-world data to deploy millions of bids daily in the marketplaces to acquire traffic for our sites.

The meta engineering team is responsible for managing infrastructure and developing software to prepare data and run the model built by data scientists. This team is also responsible for automating the workflows used by the bidding operation and campaign management team. The engineering team is based in London and Settle, supporting users globally. We process 100s of automated workflows dealing with a large volume of data.

As a leader, you will bring good software architecture and design principles to the group. In addition, you will mentor new developers to learn the software best practices. You will work with the Product Owner and the Project manager to deliver the milestones of the engineering team. You will report to the software development engineering director leading the build of the next-generation bidding platform.

What you’ll do:

  • Test and maintain software applications and related programs and procedures by using a variety of software development tools following design requirements of customer

  • Act as a spokesperson for software design best practices - researching and recommending frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • Identify areas of improvements within the code and suggests solutions

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)

  • Communicate effectively with customers; listen to customers’ concerns and issues regarding technology; determine customers’ needs and expectations and responds accordingly

  • Ensure that operational teams and subcontractors have a clear understanding of customer requirements

  • Identify technical issues and provide data to support solutions

  • Consider new ways of using technology to meet or enhance customers’ needs

  • Remain informed on industry trends

  • Examine inefficiencies in the existing stack operation and encourage engineers to improve them

  • Bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel

  • Report on team status faithfully and listen for suggestions to improve lagging project work

  • Guide employees in the development of individual goals, provide regular and specific feedback, and assesses performance

  • Encourage and support education and professional development of employees

  • Mentor employees by providing advice and recommendations based on your own experience and learnings

  • Evaluate how individuals work together as a team to achieve goals and provide a culture that supports team in the achievement of goal

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in software development with 3+ years’ experience leading engineering team

  • Have strong technical acumen which allows you to be responsible for the technical domain

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses among languages and select among available technology to implement and solve for need

  • Understand when and how to reward and recognize team members

  • Acted as a mentor for individual contributors on a team

  • Have defined team goals and how they fit a business need - working as an enabler for the team to then meet these goals

  • Have delivered solutions to business problems at the project level

  • Collaborating closely with the product team you have delivered a product roadmap
