Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering

The Vacation Rentals Shopping Experience Engineering team (part of Lodging Experience Engineering), focuses on supporting the vacation rental traveler shopping experience by maintaining and building features for vacation rentals on all Expedia Group brands. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of how travelers go from inspiration to booking their trips, on both the web and Native applications. This is a high visibility role, and the features you lead will impact the search results page and the property details page.

What you’ll do:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the product development lifecycle from idea generation to bringing a product to market by supporting the different phases and improving product performance.

  • Engage with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross dependencies, priorities, and opportunities to simplify

  • Test and maintain software applications and related programs and procedures by using a variety of software development tools following design requirements of customer

  • Act as a spokesperson for software design best practices - researching and recommending frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders; listen to stakeholders concerns and issues regarding technology; determine stakeholder’s needs and expectations and responds accordingly

  • Ensure that teams have a clear understanding of product requirements; identify technical issues and provide data to support solutions

  • Consider new ways of using technology to meet or enhance customers’ needs.

  • Evaluate current team projects or goals and identify the relevant skills and expertise needed to accomplish them

  • Plan for and distribute necessary resources to ensure accomplishment of team goals

  • Guide employees in the development of individual goals, provide regular and specific feedback, and assesses performance

Who you are:

  • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience

  • Acted as a mentor for, or have managed a team of, individual contributors

  • Bachelor's degree or Masters in a related Technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience

  • Equivalent experience includes:

  • Leading (formally) least at 3 multi-quarter projects and having participated in peer’s performance reviews by providing technical assessment and feedback

  • Strong technical acumen which allows you to be responsible for the technical domain; identify strengths and weaknesses among languages and select among available technology to implement and solve for need

  • Understand when and how to reward and recognize team members

  • Define team goals and how they fit a business need – working as an enabler for the team to then meet these goals

  • Have delivered solutions to business problems at the project level

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $161,500.00 to $226,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
