Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering

Open World Partner Experience team is looking for a hands-on people manager to lead our path to exceptional partner experience as we at Expedia Group embark on a highly ambitious platform strategy. The timing is great as you would join us at an early stage in our journey and drive multiple initiatives to scale.

What you’ll do:

  • You will lead the engineering team and ensures the successful execution of plans and new ideas

  • You will coordinate with team to define the measures of success for technology and process improvements

  • You will determine different phase milestones and priorities in collaboration with product management peers

  • You will engage outside of direct organization and collaborate with peers across a senior level organization

  • You will design, build, test and scale software applications and related programs and procedures by using a variety of software development tools employing scalable platform design

  • You will act as a spokesperson for software design best practices - researching and recommending frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • You will advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)

  • You will have broad knowledge of the entire product and in Expedia Group’s software, frameworks, cloud services, toolkits, methodologies enabling you can help with any component, or type of issues

  • You will gain insight into how partners utilize the product and apply this knowledge to suggest improvement to the experience externally and internally

  • You will convey the right information to the correct parties to ensure that proposals for new systems and improvements are given the proper consideration and technical issues are resolved in a timely manner

  • You will contribute to product development by identifying industry change and learning from partner needs

  • You will remain informed on industry trends

  • Examine inefficiencies in existing processes and encourage engineers to improve them

  • You will bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel

  • Report on team status and listen for suggestions to improve delivery

  • You will review the skill and expertise requirements to accomplish team goals and identify staffing and talent resources to fill project roles and push the team forward

  • You will develop action plans for optimal resource utilization and manage resource usage among team

  • You will guide employees in the development of team and individual goals, providing regular and specific feedback, and assessing individual and team performance

  • You will mentor employees by providing advice and recommendations based on your own experience and learnings

  • Share your domain and industry knowledge between cross functional teams

  • You will evaluate the full complement of team talent, identify gaps, and implement action plans to fill gaps and drive achievement of goals

  • Demonstrate ability to form synergies and collaborate with different functions: product management, program management, design, and research

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $148,500 to $208,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $237,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $161,500.00 to $226,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
