Senior Software Development Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering

The Platform Control Plane team is building out a full-stack platform to simplify discoverability and consumption of Expedia Group travel data.

We’re working on the next generation Platform for the company and putting resiliency at the forefront by forming a dedicated Site Reliability Engineering team focusing on providing visibility and improving the health of the Platform.

We're looking for upbeat, collaborative and creative engineers to join us and make an impact on the company’s future.

What you’ll do:

  • You will share domain and industry knowledge between cross-functional teams

  • You will research and recommend frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • You will advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)

  • You will take a whole systems approach to analyze issues and implement holistic solutions by ensuring that linkages between structure, people, process and technology are made

  • You will work with a team of experienced software engineers on design and technical direction for our products

  • You will mentor junior engineers and help integrate their code into complex systems

  • You will extend outside of direct organization and collaborate with peers across a senior level organization

  • You will report on status of difficult or high-level projects to local tech leadership via written or oral means. Ensure documentation is complete

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Strong knowledge of observability tools (Logging, Metrics, Tracing), performance and reliability engineering

  • Established experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)

  • Development experience in one or more or programming languages

  • Ability to learn quickly

  • Prior experience as a Software Engineer mentoring junior engineers and applying new engineering principles to improve existing systems including leading complex, well-defined projects

  • Ability to establish operational excellence metrics at the team level

  • Ability to identify business problems at the project level and team level and design solutions that are easily testable and observable

  • Able to understand highly complex systems and design moderately complex systems

  • Excellent problem solving and strong communication skills

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $161,500.00 to $226,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
