As a leader of this team, you will develop distributed systems that scale up to millions of transactions by driving the innovation and scale of the customer experience platform for Expedia Cruises. You will empower our customers to research, shop, and book their cruise vacation by utilizing evolving supply and search platforms on the cloud by showing highly relevant inventory and content. What You Will Do:

  • Be a great engineering leader for the team and broader organization. You will anticipate and recognize bottlenecks in work processes between teams and makes suggestions for ongoing improvement.

  • Manage a team of 8 -10 engineers to plan, track and deliver quality features in fast-paced agile environment.

  • Determine different phase milestones and priorities in collaboration with product management peers.

  • Partner with the business to have a clear understanding of how the technology stack is tied to business outcomes and our bottom line. 

  • Collaborate with other disciplines like product, program and analytics to manage dependency and effectively manage the project to deliver on time 

  • Capable of designing and providing technical guidance to large feature area and ability to understand the technical details of a complex area

  • Rigorous quality engineering practices across all phases of product development and deployment 

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability).

  • Contribute to product development by identifying industry change, listen to customer needs, capture feedback and communicate that feedback to the business.

  • Mentor employees in the development of team and individual goals, provide regular and specific feedback, and assess individual and team performance

  • Bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel. Report on team status faithfully and listen for suggestions to improve lagging project work.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's or Masters in Engineering or Equivalent related professional experience

  • 10+ years of professional industry experience working on large projects including 4+ years of people management experience in product development environment

  • Equivalent experience includes:

    • Recruited 5+ engineers into own team

    • Performance managed at least 3 individual contributors

    • Managed individuals across different locations.

  • You have strong technical acumen which allows you to be responsible for multiple technical domains; justifying technology choices to technical and non-technical observers

  • You have acted as a mentor to both individual contributors and managers on your own teams

  • You have defined team goals and how they fit a business need across multiple teams working together – working as an enabler for multiple teams to then achieve these goals

  • You have delivered solutions to business problems spanning teams

  • Collaborating closely with the product team you have delivered and influenced a product roadmap

  • Deep understanding of JVM-based technologies preferred (Java) and cloud platform service, e.g, AWS
