We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build its ever-evolving scalable and performance platform. Our team wants the right candidate who enjoys building services from scratch, loves to challenge the status quo, simplifies the architecture, does not hesitate from taking initiatives, and loves to learn new technologies. With your experience, technical skills, and passion for mentoring and inspiring others, you will create the components and experiences that enable the Insurance platform.

What you'll do:

  • Own the end-to-end product life cycle for mid to large-size projects, leading design, development, testing, and deployment efforts while providing operational excellence and support

  • Develop scalable, robust, fault-tolerant software systems to support complex business-critical problems and requirements

  • Lead, coordinate, and collaborate on multiple and complex cross-organizational technical initiatives

  • Advance the team's design methodology and quality programming practices; guide and support junior team members to adapt standard methodologies

  • Continually research and advocate for industry standards and best practices in development methodologies, techniques, and technologies

  • Independently understand time constraints, cost constraints, and impact on other teams to reach sound resource and architectural trade-offs

  • Anticipate and prevent problems and roadblocks before they occur, and present technical issues and their impact to leadership

  • Successfully build and maintain a network of key contacts across Expedia, and use these contacts to achieve results

  • Communicate and work effectively with geographically distributed multi-functional teams

  • Aim for continuous improvement in software and development process with Agile development team

Who you are:

  • 9+ years of experience in the field of Software Engineering

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related technical fields; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in most areas of the professional function, and in-depth specialization in some

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present sophisticated technical information clearly and concisely

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum software development practices

  • Voracious learner, especially in the areas of technology, cloud native patterns, and system architecture

  • Able to independently drive features from inception through to completion and production deployment

  • Excellent coding skills in Java, Kotlin, GraphQL, proficiency with Web technologies. and familiarity with ReactJS

  • Experience working with gRPC, Rest APIs and familiarity with the development of services using Spring Boot on Cloud (e.g. AWS)

  • Experience working around Apache Tomcat, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Docker, Gradle

  • Experience using code versioning tools for e.g. Git

  • Experience with Relational, Non-Relational Database and caching technologies and techniques

  • Able to work in a diverse organization with global decentralized teams, working across multiple locations

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $161,500.00 to $226,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
