We’re looking for a high-performing Group Communications Manager to lead PR for our commercial customer storytelling programs and channels. This is an exciting role on a growing part of the business with high visibility.

In this role, you will lead a team responsible for driving our customer storytelling programs and channels, encompassing responsibility for how we land customer stories targeted at specific audience segments, prioritize global and regional storytelling opportunities and support colleagues to ensure storytelling excellence, leverage customer stories to support key company/product news beats, cultivate the storytelling pipeline and maximize owned/earned channels to increase our media coverage impact. Creativity, resourcefulness, agility, confidence and negotiation skills are a must. Your work will target a range of audiences, including Microsoft shareholders, industry experts, business and IT decision makers, IT pros and a variety of tech specialists.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the story development and media strategy in alignment with our top commercial customers that breakthrough with business, tech and industry media and support our ambitious communications goals targeted at key audience segments.
  • Build the program for how the company prioritizes global and regional storytelling opportunities and support colleagues to ensure storytelling excellence.
  • Leverage customer stories to spotlight our momentum in Microsoft’s quarterly earnings and support key company/product moments.
  • Cultivate the engines that fuel our customer storytelling pipelines, inclusive of our publicity agreements program.
  • Create the playbook for maximizing owned/earned channels to increase media coverage impact.
  • Work closely with sales, engineering, marketing, communications and legal across the company as a trusted partner and advisor.
  • Build relationships with our most strategic customers and establish/execute long term communication plans to drive thoughtful and unique stories together.
  • Manage and develop spokespeople, including senior executives. Coordinate customer and partner references and stories.
  • Lead and guide external agency teams, including for media research, engagement and results measurement.
  • Be an integral part of the Commercial Communications team, collaborating across shared goals, projects and activities.
  • Manage two direct reports.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Be the subject matter expert for customer communications, with a deep understanding of the business landscape.

  • Project Management: Utilize your strong organizational skills during complex announcements and events, as well as your ability to prioritize and balance competing projects and priorities.
  • Spokesperson Support: Work with others to enhance their storytelling skills and help them to focus on opportunities that yield a strong ROI.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
  • Exceptional communications skills, with proficiency in storytelling
  • Ability to manage complex projects in a fast-changing environment
  • Understanding of evolving communications trends
  • Management experience: either direct reports or demonstrated virtual teams leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of Comms experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the technology industry
  • Ability to effectively build partnerships and drive alignment to achieve group-wide goals
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and across organizational boundaries
  • Thrives in a fast-paced and changing environment and can adapt plans accordingly
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple business partners virtual teams, vendors, and agency partners
  • Growth mindset with proven track record for new, innovative approaches and smart risk taking
