The Global Partner Solutions (GPS) team is a sales organization accountable for the commercial partner business at Microsoft, and the mission is to build and sell Microsoft Cloud applications, services and devices with partners, empowering people and organizations to achieve more. Building on this organizational mission, the Communications & Events team mission is to develop and deliver the narrative and platform that showcases partner innovation and growth with Microsoft Cloud. Our priorities for the coming year include developing the GPS communications strategy, showcasing our partners’ innovation, driving thought leadership through our storytelling and executive platform, and delivering premium event experiences. The GPS Communications and Events team needs an experienced, dynamic and strong communications leader to deeply drive the partner platform across GPS core + field and the company. As the GPS Communications Platform Manager, you will report to the Senior Director of the Industry & Partner Sales (IPS) Comms and Events team – Global Partner Solutions is part of the new IPS organization. You will lead a team of six FTEs delivering GPS storytelling through field and crisis comms, events, PR and social, and cloud to edge partner innovation showcases. You will have an opportunity to drive a strategic communications platform to land the partner narrative for the company. This includes Microsoft senior executive engagement, influence, comms governance across the organization, strategic guidance to our Editorial Council and leading cross-organizational announcements. This is a strategic role that provides significant opportunity for business impact, a breadth of communication experience, cross-team collaboration, and exec visibility


Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop communications strategy for Global Partner Solutions and drive execution and scale of plans
  • Develop core messaging and narrative to bring GPS mission and priorities to life through storytelling
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership by managing the Extended GPS Comms community and influencing alignment to strategy, priorities, and key narratives across core + field teams
  • Act as single-point-of-contact for GPS partner storytelling
  • Embed diversity and inclusion (D&I) throughout strategy and execution

People management responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and Microsoft leadership principles: create clarity, generate energy, deliver success
  • Help the team proactively drive thought leadership to strengthen Microsoft’s position as a trusted partner
  • Create clarity for the team and help prioritize engagements for highest impact
  • Deliver communications that drive business growth and customer demand for Microsoft Cloud solutions
  • Create an inclusive environment for perspectives to be heard and taken into account so that the team can create ideas and develop collateral materials (e.g., decks, posts, talking points) for use in communications initiatives and events
  • Ensure content is consistent across the channels with which Microsoft is connected to a given audience
  • Mentor others in the execution of tactics to support overall strategy, ensuring consistency of voice across messages and channels
  • Manage team to identify needed content and develop content to support education, guidance, and advice to internal stakeholders, customers, and partners on communications strategy and tactics
  • Deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring

Candidate Profile:

  • Strategic and proactive communications professional
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, exceptional storytelling, ability to clearly articulate complex issues and formulate recommendations to a wide variety of audiences
  • Proven leadership and strong management capabilities
  • Ambitious, self-starter, thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, effectively manages priorities
  • Strong executive presence and confidence, willing to take on big challenges, advocate a position, build a business case, and influence others
  • Exceptional cross-group collaboration skills to successfully and independently work across many teams and functions
  • Interpersonal and conflict resolutions skills
  • Experienced in planning, strategic thinking, business savvy, execution excellence, attention to detail
  • High integrity, excellent judgement and decision-making skills, showing the utmost discretion in the management of confidential corporate information
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft’s strategy, product and service offerings, and company culture
  • Experience working in the tech industry and a partner organization


The ideal candidate is required to provide the following skills and competencies:

  • BA/BS in Journalism, English or Communications (or equivalent field)
  • 6+ years Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or related experience
  • 1+ years people management experience, ideally leading teams and working with senior executives in fast paced, high pressure, often ambiguous environments
