The SMB Strategy Data Manager is a key contributor to our transformation, where the focus is on innovating our go-to-market capability and capacity to best serve SMB customers through various sales engines. This requires continuous innovation and evolution of our data strategy to enable sales engines execution while remaining centered on the customer.

To be successful, you must understand the SMB market and customer needs, the IT channel and partner ecosystem, and sales engines that span from demand response to customer success that drive customer acquisition and retention motions at scale.

You will lead a v-team of key business partners from the sales teams, product, and services teams, driving data strategy alignment and execution excellence on SMB with the right level of investments to address customer needs, acquire new customers at scale and improve customer retention and satisfaction.

This role is flexible in that you can work up to 50% from home.


This role will require the candidate to demonstrate thought leadership in complex data environments to deliver the SMB data strategy. The candidate is expected to be a self-starter with start-up attitude, who can navigate complex business scenarios, excel in ambiguous environments, and generate clarity through structured thinking and clear communication of the SMB data strategy.

This is a high impact role that will help drive the SMB data strategy across internal stakeholders and external Microsoft Partners. The candidate will be expected to work closely with different groups across WW Marketing & Operations, SMB Business Strategy, Vendor Tele, Marketing, Global Partner team, Field SMC sales teams, Business Groups, Legal, Privacy and Finance – to extract, transform, clean, validate, load, and analyze data and build analytical models to solve monetization and business strategy problems.

The WW SMB Data Strategist role focuses on extending the SMB data platform that forms the foundation of the SMB strategy in FY23+ creating a consistent execution model for internal and external sales engines. This includes

  • Extending the SMB Data Model (CLAS) for MSP’s, increasing the signals for partners and influencers through a digital data escrow model to be leveraged by both Microsoft Sales Engines as well as Partners and third-party go to market partnerships

  • Extending the SMB Data Model (CLAS) to incorporate unstructured insights (market research, CPE feeback, local initiatives, etc.) into customer and partner archetypes to support local execution.

  • Support the BPM and Field teams to improve the adoption and accuracy of the existing signs, including an option to incorporate local datasets and signals.

  • Support for BG led initiatives and the incorporation of them into the CLAS framework (example Project Orland) and extending this into all solution areas.

  • Support for local execution of marketing campaigns based on CLAS data and support for contact information / privacy and targeting



Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business consulting, sales, sales operations, information technology (IT), account management, business development, marketing, IT field sales, or a related field OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in Near Term Strategy (1-2 years out), Management Consulting, or Finance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years’ experience with data strategy, data science and analytics; designing large scale customer databases to support Sales and Marketing teams to identify customer and partner opportunities– to ultimately improve customer targeting, optimize sales and marketing resources, and communicate insights across multiple sales engines
  • 6+ years’ experience in sales and/or sales strategy roles, data-driven marketing roles or comparable experience working in data-driven organizations
  • Candidates are expected to be hypothesis driven with passion for data and should be experienced in making data-driven business decisions
  • Candidates must be comfortable in manipulating and analyzing complex, high dimensional data from varying sources to solve complex/ambiguous problems and should be able to communicate complex ideas/concepts in a simpler form to leadership and/or extended teams
  • Excellent data and analysis skills using excel, olap cubes and data visualization tools
  • Experience operating in Agile project management framework
  • Experience with Python, SQL, and other related tools for Data Science/Machine Learning is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to simplify and explain complex ideas
  • This role can be located in any city in the USA-preferred location is Redmond, WA
  • The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $129800 and $194800.
  • At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
