Director, Surface Devices Strategy

Microsoft is looking for a motivated & inspiring leader to join the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) team, a highly influential group within the Devices Supply Chain organization, responsible for driving end to end supply chain strategy to enable achievement of the financial & overall category targets for Microsoft devices such as Xbox, Surface & incubation products.

Surface Devices Strategy Director leads a team of professionals that develop and oversee execution of global supply positioning strategies across all stages of the product lifecycle, ensuring that inventory is positioned to deliver working capital, cost, and service goals. You will be working closely with Product Marketing, Finance & various groups within Supply Chain to establish & manage supply plan of record. Your responsibilities will also require a good understanding of the demand dynamics of the different business segments as well as financial implications towards achievement of the P&L goals for your products. Your purpose will be to deliver the right product (sku) to the right place (geo, segment, channel) at the right time (cost, lifecycle) and drive category performance across end-to-end supply chain to enable profitability for the business.

The ideal candidate must combine exceptional analytical capabilities, business and financial acumen, deep supply chain knowledge, and a proven track record of improving business performance by facilitating decision-making across multiple stakeholders. This role requires an outstanding ability to influence at Executive level within Supply chain and cross-functional peer groups.


  • Manage and lead a team of ~7 professionals across the roles of Supply Strategy, Product Lifecycle Management, and S&OP Analyst
  • Own supply commitment (plan of record) to deliver the right product (sku) to the right place (geo, segment, channel) at the right time (cost, lifecycle)
  • Own and manage the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process for Surface Devices, ensure the right decisions and business actions achieved through the process
  • Own end-to-end inventory throughout the supply chain, making sure appropriate visibility and actions are in place to support MS inventory investment decisions
  • Own development & execution of supply fulfillment strategies via operating models to achieve the approved S&OP plan in the optimal way, balancing cost, service, and P&L objectives
  • Leverage data analysis and channel insights to drive on / off reservation decisions and the implementation of fulfillment models / target segmentation profiles globally
  • In partnership with Finance, monitor product P&L and drive the right levers to enable profitability
  • Manage component and finished good liability and own the final input into Finance for Excess & Obsolescence (E&O) reserves and action to drive aged inventory
  • Drive policy decisions and executional plans to achieve IBP goals in a more scalable, standardized, low touch manner
  • Manage and monitor metrics at global and regional level, identifying opportunities /risks and driving corrective actions
  • Enable structure, rhythms, and processes to comprehensively manage operational activities and critical dependencies required to ensure attainment of supply commitments & achievement of targets
  • In partnership with Lifecycle, influence upstream decisions on the lifecycle impacting downstream / E2E performance of the category
  • Manage, coach & develop the team to improve WHI for the entire organization

Required Qualifications:

  • 8 to 10 years of relevant experience, preferably within high-tech manufacturing, consumer electronics and supply chain industry
  • Demonstration of broad and extensive supply chain experience, such as new product introduction, supply planning, demand management and forecasting, channel operations management

  • Advanced conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent people management and team leadership skills to hire, develop, and retain talent
  • Ability to partner at senior levels to design and implement programs & solutions
  • Knowledge of business systems and information technology for managing supply chain
  • Good business judgment, exceptional communication skills and ability to resolve conflicts diplomatically
  • Bachelors degree in business, supply chain, operations management, or engineering or years of equivalent experience
  • MBA preferred
