The CELA Environmental Sustainability (ES) team coordinates overall science-based, measurable, and scalable sustainability investments and outcomes across the company – engaging with business groups on the environmental impacts of business operations and positive environmental outcomes resulting from technology and policy development.

On Microsoft’s Carbon Strategy and Market Development team, this position will lead cross-company strategy for fuel decarbonization in Microsoft’s supply chain, including establishing a low-carbon fuel (e.g. sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF) procurement plan, developing sustainability quality criteria, advancing related carbon accounting methodologies and standards, and demonstrating thought leadership. This position requires extensive cross-group coordination, strong expertise in low-carbon fuels, excellent communication skills, the ability to develop and apply compelling data-driven insights to cross-industry initiatives, and personal commitment to meaningful climate action. This role will directly contribute to Microsoft’s carbon negative commitment.

Responsibilities

Coordinating cross-company fuel decarbonization

  • Organize and lead a cross-functional team of internal stakeholders to proactively develop and execute cross-company strategy, demand analysis, work plan, budget, and timeline to advance decarbonization of fuels in Microsoft’s supply chain
  • Refine and operationalize sustainability quality criteria and carbon accounting methodologies for purchasing low-carbon fuels, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Create and execute a framework for cultivating and evaluating related procurement opportunities in low/zero-carbon fuels
  • Develop and represent fuel decarbonization perspective in key internal contexts, including but not limited to carbon accounting and disclosure, carbon methodology governance, carbon reduction targets, roadmapping, forecasting, investment opportunities, and carbon fee
  • Partner with the company’s sustainability standards team to represent Microsoft’s fuel decarbonization objectives externally, with voluntary standards, regulatory bodies, and cross-sector initiatives

Incubating future innovation

  • Identify and originate pilot projects in low/zero-carbon fuels that are innovative on multiple dimensions (e.g., technologies, financial mechanisms)
  • Develop and represent Microsoft’s position on fuel decarbonization externally, through thought leadership, public policy advocacy, and communications

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related rolesOR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in sustainability, climate, or energy industry
  • 3+ years of experience in corporate sustainability

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related rolesOR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree in business/MBA, economics, finance, sustainability, environmental science, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in fuel decarbonization
  • Excellent business acumen and entrepreneurial, self-directed spirit
  • Growth mindset with problem solving skills, including keen data insights
  • Experience working with sustainability professionals
  • Track record of driving results through deep and resourceful collaboration
  • Clear understanding of carbon accounting practices and/or carbon market standards
  • Ability to relocate to Puget Sound area is preferred
