The AGC Datacenter Operations (DCOps) team has a sharp focus on serving our U.S. Government customers and helping them achieve federal missions. As the Director of Operations Programs on the AGC DCOps team, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft’s dedicated online services supporting the U.S. Government.

While the AGC DCOps team is dedicated to serving our U.S. Government customers and helping them achieve federal missions, together, all of Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 160 datacenters hosting millions of servers. Our foundation is built upon and managed by a team of subject matter experts working to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

Be at the forefront of the action in CO+I as part of our AGC DCOps team, the CO+I AGC organization, and the broader Microsoft AGC community.

This role is required to perform some of its work on-site in Redmond, WA, and be based in the Puget Sound area in order to successfully support mission objectives. Candidates may perform hybrid work from home in the Puget Sound area and commute to the Redmond campus for on-site work as required.

As a successful AGC Director of Operations Programs your success will be measured by:



  • Empowers a culture of safety, security, availability, and compliance in all aspects of AGC and datacenter activities
  • Attends in-person meetings and interact with U.S. Government customers and other Microsoft groups to understand and clarify their needs and requirements, synthesize into directives and action items for internal teams, and drive project plans to deliver operational excellence.
  • Performs program landscape research and analysis, forecasting, and examines business trends to identify audience size and program scope, stay current, agile, and competitive, and contribute to programs impacting Microsoft.
  • Oversees a team and also individually manages a portfolio of multiple concurrent projects including the project plan, timelines, milestones, financial management, performance metrics, and/or resource needs for crucial programs.
  • Drives consensus to prioritize key business goals, objectives, and strategies, and develops short- and long-term business priorities.
  • Understands and identifies current program risks, impact, and develops mitigation plans impacting Microsoft.
  • Identifies and scopes opportunities to develop new programs and improve current ones impacting Microsoft.
  • Improves operations of existing programs by applying industry methodology, defining crucial complex program issues, assessing various scenarios, and selecting the optimal scenario to resolve issues.
  • Drives strategic alignment among cross-functional (e.g., organizational, product, business) stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Security, Program Management, HR, Legal, Finance, etc.) to design crucial programs from initiation to delivery.
  • Provides thought leadership to produce collateral (e.g., proposals, strategy walking deck, internal and external pitch content) that incorporates stakeholder needs and ensures the business objectives are met.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to drive the defining and tracking of success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs] and Key Performance Indicators [KPIs]).
  • Optimizes the use of data analytics to derive insights and guidance that help identify current and future program risks and mitigation plans, as well as opportunities to streamline and optimize programs based on lessons learned.
  • Evangelizes crucial programs to stakeholders, partners, and customers to gain buy in.
  • Communicates the program status and risk to relevant stakeholders and holds them accountable for following the established schedule, risk mitigation plans, and processes.
  • Establishes objectives and success criteria for the project in an inclusive collaborative manner with all stakeholders.
  • Develops processes around scope and scheduled changes for programs impacting Microsoft and communicates it to stakeholders.
  • Monitors programs and ensure all activities align with business and program objectives and report up to leadership.
  • Utilizes direction and strategy from leadership to advocate and influence sponsorship regarding business area of expertise to create and execute plans that shift current priorities to new organizational initiatives and objectives, and influences others to change behavior accordingly.
  • Drives others to develop the information and work product required to enable key stakeholders and others to be onboard.

For this role, you are welcome to apply if you meet the following Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years' work experience in U.S. government, datacenter, or high technology program management, initiatives leadership, or other or business-related functions.
  • 6+ years management (e.g., people, project, process, vendor, change) experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Program Management, or equivalent work experience
  • The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in high security environments supporting the U.S. Government
  • Prior experience as a key contributor or leader in high security, secure logistics, or secure supply chain programs.
  • Experience with cloud and/or high-tech industry program and project management skills
  • Enterprise-level experience in managing large-scale and complex projects/programs
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, data analysis, and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills
  • 8+ years people management experience
  • Prior experience communicating with and presenting to senior level U.S. Government customers.

Background Check Requirements:

Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements
  • The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
