About the role

The Software Engineer will work on projects re-imagining the networking in Windows enabling Azure and Office. The role is responsible for core Windows components, including the Windows HTTP, DNS, and DHCP stacks. Applying elegant designs, the Software Engineer will push the web performance and networking security to the next level. Additionally, the developer in this role will be collaborating with other developers and program managers.


Responsibilities include:

  • Interact with other developers and customers of our stacks to understand their scenarios and design solutions tailored to their needs.
  • Engage with leaders in the industry and developer community to discuss, refine, and deliver the next versions of the HTTP, DNS, and DHCP protocols.
  • Partner with other developers and program managers, using your technical expertise to translate real-world requirements into technical solutions and then delivering them at scale.
  • Be responsible for bringing excellence to your features based on customer feedback received through various internal and external channels.

The Software Engineer will be an individual contributor reporting to the Windows Principal Engineering manager and will have the opportunity to work with amazing people from across Microsoft. This role requires a high degree of professionalism and is grounded in strong technical skills and collaboration with others across organizations and with diverse work styles.


Required Qualifications

You are an ideal candidate if you have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the fundamental data structures and algorithms
  • Knowledge of the OS primitives
  • Knowledge of the networking fundamentals

Preferred Characteristics

In addition to the qualifications listed above, you should also possess the following characteristics:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • The aptitude and motivation to learn low-level details of operating systems and computer networking
  • Familiarity with software debugging and debugging at scale
  • Professional experience of developing and debugging software written in C, C++, C#, or Rust
  • A real passion for coding discipline and shown ability to deliver high-quality system code
