This role is based out of Redmond, WA and will require an on-campus presense (1-2 days remote per week can be accomodated).

The Identity and Network Access (IDNA) Engineering Division within the Microsoft Security group is responsible for building and managing Microsoft’s cloud identity services. As companies embark on their digital transformations, they rely on Microsoft’s cloud identity services to give them secure, convenient, manageable, digital relationships with employees, customers, and business partners. Tens of thousands of organizations and more than 1 billion end-users connect using Microsoft identity services to over 1 million applications each month, and these organizations include Microsoft’s own online services and platforms like Azure, Office, Xbox, and HoloLens. IDNA’s offerings include Identity Access Management solutions and End-User Network Access services for the Microsoft Cloud spanning Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Entra Permissions Management, Microsoft Account (MSA), Certificate Authority/PKI and Secrets management services, end-user network access and app access services, as well as foundational Azure authentication and authorization services. All of these services provide over 110 billion transactions every day around the world, preventing more than 920 attacks per minute.  

The Chief of Staff (COS) is a critical role that works closely with the President and Leadership Team (LT) and leads the IDNA Executive Office in driving LT business operations, strategic project development and implementation, internal communications, and organizational health. The IDNA Chief of Staff is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the LT operating rhythm, including setting up and driving key processes to get work done. The Chief of Staff will provide insight and advice to the LT around operational excellence, resource and fiscal planning, organization health & development, and participate in overall group strategy decisions and implementations.  The Chief of Staff will also be involved in working with the President and the LT to identify and develop strategies and content to be used for team sharing, and executive reviews.

Leadership Effectiveness 
As the LT leads the business through transformational strategy moves and a fast changing landscape, own LT & extended LT processes and agendas, including follow through and related communications to enable successful leadership of the organization.  Participate as a valued LT member and offer synthesized business perspectives relevant to influencing key strategic decisions.  Maximize the effectiveness of the President by helping balance priorities, communicate effectively, participate in the most relevant meetings, and connect with the team. 

Team Development & Culture 
Lead the D&I PM to help make the team a great place to work.  In partnership with HR and the LT, shape and drive the people agenda and lead team health initiatives.  Orchestrate team trainings and brownbag series to contribute to ongoing development.  Define, plan and drive cross-team process improvements (e.g., team recognition). 

Lead the Comms Director to plan and execute President's communications strategy and vehicles that support organizational strategic missions.  Drive internal communications for team meetings and other internal communications at major milestones.  Plan and manage team meetings including All Hands, staff meetings and manager meetings.  In partnership with PR, manage the President’s external communications for customer/partner engagements, speaking engagements to ensure successful and impactful use of President’s time. 

Product Planning and Special Projects 
Work with the President, the Business Managers, and the LT to develop and implement different aspects of product planning.  For example, the Chief of Staff will be responsible for identifying product planning and OKRs across IDNA and work with President to develop the ROB i.e. what type of product reviews or documents are needed and develop a shared point of view.  Then the Chief of Staff would be expected to work with team leaders and participate in content creation. 

Business Partner Relationships 
Establishes and maintains key points of contact with internal teams (e.g., Finance, PR, HR, Marketing, RS&F, Business Development); manages and cultivates relationships with leaders of internal teams. Builds relationships with senior executives (e.g., global executive sponsors, CVPs). Acts as an advisor to senior leadership on a particular area of expertise, leveraging breadth of deep technical/product knowledge, organizational context, and market awareness on strategic business decisions. 
Strategic Project Leadership 
Partner with President and the LT to define and manage Strategy project(s) as a project lead through goals, deliverables, feedback, and timing expectations, providing structure and guidance for others; proactively identify and address roadblocks. Manage projects independently and/or by leading project teams. 

Business Integration 
Drive strategic initiatives and provide thought leadership.  Identify issues that impede business group success and provide solutions/recommendations.  Identify opportunities to create cross group collaboration and synergies.  Partner with HR to orchestrate team design conversations and facilitate successful implementation of organizational plans.  Demonstrate discretion and professionalism when working with leadership team on sensitive business and organizational issues, manage ambiguity and propose workable solutions to challenging problems. 

Business Planning 
Partner with the LT to manage the planning process ensuring coordination with corporate planning processes as well as planning integration across the broader org.  Work with cross-division and cross-company/team counterparts to manage team participation as needed for key business events, next fiscal year planning, running business reviews, MPRs, MBRs and other strategic business planning activities. 
Business Process 
Work with the Business Managers to lead and coordinate the organization rhythm of the business (ROB) and improve processes to run the business efficiently as the organization scales.  Partner with finance and procurement to ensure effective budget management, headcount management and forecasting.  Partner with staffing team to meet hiring requirements and elevate staffing conversations with the LT. 


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of product engineering experience in an engineering role (software engineering, product or program management, design, or data science).   
    • Or 10+ years marketing, strategy, business planning, consulting, and/or partner organization experience, scaling a business, driving change in a large company, entrepreneurship, etc 
  • Previous experience leading/Managing a team (People Management)
  • Experience driving complex, multi-stakeholder processes and cross-team programs to desired results while managing risk. 
  • Experience with executive communications
  • Ability to create effective relationships, influence and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels. 
  • Experience building Detail-oriented project plans

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-To-Have):

  • Demonstrated history of engineering and/or product expertise with a proven ability to influence and inspire technical peers. 
  • Experience working with a globally distributed workforce
  • Experience as a COS at technology company
