The Chief of Staff for the Azure Core and Digital & App Innovation business is a leadership position within the organizations Leadership Team to drive key business and operational rhythms including finance, communications, events, and cultural initiatives for the team. Reporting to and partnering with the CVP, the Chief of Staff will support the team and its leadership and help establish and maintain relationships across teams and organizations within Microsoft. A strategic thinker, trusted advisor, and effective storyteller, the Chief of Staff designs, implements, and evangelizes programs and services addressing the needs of the team. 

This is a business-critical role that will enable the right candidate to have a direct and significant impact on an organization directly tied to Microsoft’s mission.

Responsibilities

Strategic advisor and key player within the Apps, Infra and IOT Business Leadership team, with insightful data-driven strategic recommendations. Strategic advisor to the CVP, her LT and leader on large strategic or customer areas that are new or emerging, likely spanning multiple teams or new commercial scenarios.

Strategic Leadership: Work with leadership team to define and communicate strategic goals for the organization. Represent and communicate shared vision across the team and with partners across the company. Chief of staff needs the ability to speak proficiently about the solution area subjects as well as organization and team and should understand the nuances in both that can/should impact the way we do business.

Productivity: Help ensure the overall productivity of the CVP and the LT working closely with EAs and BMs, including attendance at meetings, handling the management of requests, pre-preparation of materials, and follow up on action items.

ROB/Planning: Lead and coordinate the organizational and business ROB (including FY Calendar, FY planning activities, LT meetings). Agenda definition, team/leader preparation, meeting facilitation, action closure working with cross-functional teams (ELT, SLT, LT cadences + VSU/QBR/MBR/EBR + annual planning) in collaboration with internal and external team stakeholders

Financial Management: lead financial management for the business (opex, headcount) including budgeting, execution, and compliance.

Lead of Azure Apps, Infra and IOT Solutions Communications Team, driving Azure business and executive communications as well as Azure Business events. Includes internal and external communications strategy, plan, development, execution and coordination. Lead the preparation and production of all executive presentations, including but not limited to reviews, all hands meetings, internal and external speaking engagements, offsites, and events. Build executive branding internally and externally through communications framework.

Culture leadership and DEI champion: Lead and build culture strategy programs/activation for the team including vision, mission, charter, team’s morale, leadership principles, rhythm of business, etc. Talent cultivation and management, partner to HR business partner(s) Lead organizational design based on business priorities aligned with consistent blueprint across Solution Areas, driving team building and supporting hiring process.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.

  • Influence both verbally and through written materials and ultimate drive productive conversations at all levels. Ability to effectively collaborate, influence, and utilize outside resources to deliver impactful results.
  • Excellent business judgment. Conceptualize complex ideas quickly and convey those thoughts to others in a clear, effective and motivating manner.
  • Conduct insightful, multi-faceted conversations with senior business and Solution Area decision makers about their business challenges. Expert collaborator, with the skills and maturity needed to work effectively across broad teams.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills, including demonstrated success developing executive communications and working across senior leadership to curate content.
  • Experience in managing large complex organizational budgets.
  • Executive maturity and proven ability to plan, organize, and manage business/operational rhythms such as leadership team meetings, reviews, and events.
  • Ability to think holistically and strategically about key operational rhythms, communications, and programs. Leverage understanding of engineering rhythm(s) so that RoB supports the right knowledge sharing and decision processes at the right time.
  • Strong project management skills with exceptional organization skills.
