The Role

This role is responsible for broking new and renewal business, handling all aspects of the placements from initial market selection through policy delivery. The Broker typically focuses handling all P&C coverage lines within the middle market segment. This may include expansion into larger and more complex placements. An important part of the role will be cultivating strong insurer and insurer-client-broker relationships. This is not a sales role.

We offer the flexibility of a remote option for qualified candidates in the North East territory and who can accommodate modest travel within this region.

This opportunity is open to Junior/Associate Brokers as well as established Brokers; duties will be commensurate of experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proactively coordinate and manage broking around the renewal cycle in accordance to NFP’s service standards and timelines
  • Define success and direct broking activity, individually and amongst the team, to achieve the optimal outcome for the client/prospect; ensures a go-to-market strategy is in place for each broking engagement
  • Demonstrate exceptional negotiation skills – possesses an awareness of different personality types and has the ability to adjust the approach to effectively drive the optimal outcome; capable of interacting with audiences of various seniority within client, carrier, wholesale and specialty organizations; effectively manages difficult scenarios and collaborates with Broking Team Leader on alternatives and solutions
  • Execute the placement of client/prospect opportunities demonstrating an unmistakable command of the risk to be placed, and a clear focus on driving the optimal outcome in both financial and non-financial terms
  • Collaborate with account management team and client to ensure complete and timely submissions, respond to carrier queries, compile carrier quote proposals and critically and comparatively analyze each, and present clients with a clear summary of the marketing process, and a proposal with recommendations
  • Develop creative solutions to effectively address difficult placement scenarios; owns the process and drives outcomes to enhance customer satisfaction around key deliverables
  • Lead team members in preparation of proposal presentations for existing and prospective clients
  • Support team members in responding to client queries and concerns to resolve issues promptly
  • Present proposals to producers and account management teams and leads client meetings
  • Oversee the development of sales documents, presentations, stewardship reports, and RFP responses for prospective clients
  • Prepare detailed and complex coverage and policy comparisons, diagnostics, consolidated coverage/policy analyses, letters, and reports under the direction of the Team Leader
  • Oversee the review of binders and policies to ensure terms and conditions are accurately reflected
  • Provide leadership and demonstrates an ability to effectively mentor, support and develop team members
  • Develop highly strong, productive, trustful and resilient relationships with carrier and wholesale partners and their staff and NFP local office teams
  • Provide oversight and ensure the accuracy of client and policy information in NFP’s broker management system
  • Drive and ensure the effective deployment of data and analytics to provide meaningful program insight for clients and the brokering team
  • Develop and ensure the deployment of differentiated client services; ensures the thoughtful and sound execution of the client stewardship process and ensures services teams create and enhance the depth of client relationships
  • Ensure technology resources are showcased and appropriately introduced to defined customers
  • Provide oversight ensuring client, brokering and brokerage data files are maintained in a timely, complete and well-ordered fashion
  • Lead by example in executing on NFP’s broking strategies including strategic carriers, panels, and preferred wholesaler utilization
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of insurance marketplace, products & services
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of a variety of P&C risk financing techniques
  • Demonstrate an understanding of actuarial analysis, and the utilization of its concepts
  • Lead and support all portfolio management objectives under the direction of the Brokering Team Leader

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of related broker or commercial lines experience with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound understanding of broker operating fundamentals and financials
  • Excellent negotiation skills – ability to adjust your approach to effectively drive optimal outcomes depending on different personalities
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to adjust to changing workload, work complexity and priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a key team member
  • Self-motivated and determined with a positive attitude and sense of urgency
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Proven technical competency and creativity demonstrating proficiency in creating and delivering innovative property & casualty insurance solutions
  • Confident, poised and interactive - when client-facing, communicates effectively, demonstrate emotional intelligence, and understands how to tailor responses in a variety of dynamic situations
  • Existing cyber insurance proficiency and a commitment to gaining further knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRMs

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum five years insurance experience
  • Experience with EPIC (Broker Management System) a plus

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

  • P&C License required or obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Advanced industry designation(s) (e.g. CPCU, CIC, ARM) preferred
