Job Overview:

TE Connectivity is now hiring a Staff Manufacturing & Process Development Engineer for the Ruggedized Fiber Optics (RFO) team with Aerospace, Defense and Marine business unit in Middletown, PA. The Manufacturing Development team supports new product development by developing robust assembly processes that can be transferred to high volume production facilities. We
are responsible for building prototype tooling to produce customer samples & production tooling to meet customer's ramp up schedules. A key focus for our team is to arrive at cost-effective solutions by utilizing lean designs for six sigma techniques while working closely with development engineering and operations on the release of new products.

The Staff Manufacturing Development Engineer will be a key member of our simultaneous engineering teams and will be responsible for supporting complex process challenges and offering guidance on our day-today manufacturing needs that support NPI growth. This includes optical connector assembly, cable assembly techniques, optical testing methodology, and resolution of problems encountered in the process of bringing new optical products from concept to market. The duties include the manufacture and assembly of connector components / cable assemblies, test methodologies for complex value-add cable assemblies, present innovative ideas to solve complex manufacturing problems and input on new product designs to reduce costs and increase overall manufacturing efficiency.

Must be familiar with:

Optical manufacturing principles such as cable termination to various single fiber and multi fiber optical connectors and test methods to test single mode and multi-mode assemblies. Additionally, this candidate must have basic knowledge of industry standard environmental and mechanical performance of optical

Primary Responsibilities:

  • New data process development including generation of process documentation & visual standards.
  • Data collection & organization to support process improvement efforts.
  • Coordination of software updates and maintenance of all optical test equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand and become the resident expert on industry standards.
  • Estimating & initiating capital equipment projects; specifying and implementing new manufacturing equipment.
  • Analyze yield and process control data and develop sound solutions to address manufacturing cost drivers.
  • Resolve component design deficiencies as related to assembly of products.
  • Arrive at cost effective solutions by using Design for Six Sigma concepts.

What your background should look like:

  • A bachelor's degree in Optical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering plus 5 years of Experience in a fiber optics manufacturing environment; OR 15 years of focused experience in the fiber optics Manufacturing environment.
  • Green or Black Belt in Six Sigma Process preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SAP is desirable.
  • Understanding of optical transceiver function & testing is desirable but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of in mil-aero products is desirable but not a requirement.
