Job Overview

The R&D Manager, Product & Process Development Engineering reports to Global Director of R&D within the TE Medical Devices Product Business Unit. The successful candidate will be highly technical and able to organize, staff and lead entry/junior to senior level engineers and technicians in the development of MI medical devices. Activities within the team include the development of specifications, capable manufacturing processes, selection of equipment, conducting controlled studies to ensure that product subassemblies and finished products are validated to their design requirements and enabling long term quality with detailed manufacturing instructions. In the role, the R&D Manager will work closely with our Customers and our Commercial, Quality, PMO and Operations functions in leading the delivery of product designs and manufacturing processes to achieve a smooth, successful production launch.


The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the team in all elements of R&D on projects from concept generation through transfer to operations.
  • Technically steer R&D team members guided by technical leads across several projects.
  • Analyze and/or directs the evaluation of test data to assure the development of robust/repeatable manufacturing processes, and product designs.
  • Direct subordinates towards clear company objectives in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Collaborate with all departments and other employees associated with NPD to achieve company objectives and resolve project issues.
  • Guide the team in applying leading and cutting edge technologies to provide optimum design and production solutions.
  • Build the engineering group skills sets/strength in depth through growth and development of the team.
  • Contribute as independent Reviewer on other projects within the NPD group.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of a robust device design and manufacturing methods in accordance with PMO plan/schedule.
  • Liaise with PMO on project resourcing, timelines & project progress.
  • Drive & facilitate communication lines across NPD to act as first point of project escalation.
  • Create and maintain management dashboards and associated meetings to review progress against project KPI’s.
  • Perform resource planning, employee management and leverage efficient utilization of resources.
  • Advocate, steer and provide input into new project opportunities.
  • Report device design and development progress to all key stakeholders and site leadership.

What your background should look like:

  • A level 8 Engineering degree, or equivalent
  • 8+ years of medical device experience in a product development or manufacturing environment
  • Lean Six Sigma or equivalent certification
  • Demonstrated expertise with inferential statistical process analysis techniques
  • Demonstrated experience and capability with mechanical design methods
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in Process Validations in medical device manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical process analysis tools, including Design of Experiments (DOE) and reliability/capability for process development characterization and optimization
  • Solid proficiency in technical documentation, including understanding and interpretation of CAD modeling and engineering drawings
  • Demonstrated expertise in Design Control and understanding of requirements to bring a product successfully through the Design lifecycle
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, be well-organized, ability to work in a fast-paced self-directed environment

COMPENSATION

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $129,100 - $193,700 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
  • Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
  • Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
