Director, Data Engineering
The Expedia Group Marketing Channels and Technology is on a journey to empower Marketing teams to make data-backed decisions to optimize for customer experiences and marketing decision. As part of that journey, we are creating a unified marketing data sets providing visibility, and optimization tools in partnership with program, product and finance. Our marketing platform helps ensure we build a tech optimized customer experiences while improving our unit economics.
We are looking for director of data engineering for marketing data engineering and intelligence group who can help design and build the long-term architecture for the various components of our marketing data ecosystem, provide technical leadership to a team dedicated to driving technology innovation for enabling faster and smarter decision making. You will be leading a group of engineers with different experiences in the team and evangelize engineering best practices across the organization. What you’ll do:
You will lead accomplished engineering teams and ensures the successful execution of new ideas or approaches
Evangelize cloud, devops best practices by building cost conscious technical solutions. Create a multiplier effect using simple, elegant and cost effective business solutions
You will have broad knowledge of the entire product and in EG's languages, frameworks, cloud services, toolkits, methodologies enabling you can help with any component, or type of issues
Engage with stakeholders across engineering teams and C-level executives to help with understanding cost and figuring out cost optimization opportunities
You will determine different phase milestones and priorities in collaboration with product management peers
You will remain informed on industry trends. Examine inefficiencies in the existing stack operation and encourage engineers to improve them
You will bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel. Report on team status faithfully and listen for suggestions to improve
You will review the skill and expertise requirements to accomplish team goals and identify staffing and talent resources to fill project roles
You will guide employees and managers in the development of team and individual goals, providing regular and specific feedback, and assessing individual and team performance
Who you are:
10+ years software development experience in an enterprise level engineering environment demonstrating increasing levels of technical leadership
5+ years’ experience of managing big data engineering experience with excellent understanding of delivering Data and ML projects
Candidates with digital marketing background would be a huge plus
Outstanding communication and organizational skills - able to translate between technical and business functions, bring forward a vision or opinion that can push the boundaries of innovation
Experience architecting, developing, and successfully delivering complex, large-scale systems
Good hands-on big data eco-systems like Spark, Hive, Presto, Kafka, Airflow, NoSQL Datastore, REST API
Data-native; can read and write complex SQL in your sleep
Strong, multi-year experience with at least one BI platform - e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI
Be comfortable working across countries and time zones on a daily basis
Ability to lead multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize decisions and tasks and work in a fast-paced, changing environment
Relentless passion for delivering technology and experiences that help customers and developers
Ability to mentor team of mixed experience, some are senior to you and help in their career progression

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $207,500.00 to $290,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $332,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
